WIW inspired by Team YLF

At the fabulous SSIF I saw Inge AND Greg wear this outfit concept!  It consists of white bottoms plus a black top half.  I took a picture of Greg at Dashielle's fun cocktail party, hoping I could get my boyfriend to wear white jeans.  I haven't succeeded at that yet, but I thought I'd try it myself.  I don't have a picture of Inge's outfit but you can see it in Greg's cocktail party pictures thread here.  She wore white jeans, a white shirt and black cropped(ish) tuxedo jacket and looked even more than K-Power, we need to come up with a term for that -- maybe Infinite Killer?  Ultimate K-Power?

White Kut Catherine boyfriend jeans from 2013 (Nordsrom).
Black Daisy tee from UO, from 2014.
Freebird oxfords from 2013 (Shopbop).

I was worried that the muddy color of the daisy would clash with the white jeans but I think it works with the muddy oxfords.

WIW - Opera Outfits

At the last minute my Mom took me with her to the opening of the SF Opera this year.  It was Norma by Bellini starring  Sondra Radvanovsky.  She has an amazing voice!  So powerful.  I read a review that her voice kept cracking but I noticed very few flaws.  I am, however, by no means an expert.

So this outfit is nothing compared to the colorful, Oscar-worthy gowns I saw.  I put this together at the last minute.  It's basically my one and only dress, I got it at Zara last year at the Santa Monica meet up with Angie.  Accessorized with a dramatic sliver and gemstone statement necklace belonging to Mom.  Here is the artist Samantha Grisdale, she has moved away from fine jewelry.  I like to think my outfit was understated and not a distraction to the artists as our seats are in row A.  Lol.

1 -- On the red carpet.
2 -- With Mom
3 -- The dress at home, I think I like it better without black tights.

The next night we saw an American opera from 1955 by Carlisle Floyd called Susannah.  I actually preferred the attire of others better this night.  There were less formal but more modern outfits.  I saw a woman, older than myself, in a full leather midi, leather jacket, and leather flat booties who looked amazing.  And the men!  There were some very sharp dressed gentleman.

4 -- My home picture of what I wore.  I didn't get a chance to be photographed.  I added the same silver statement necklace from the night before.
5 -- View from the side.  I got this duster to go with the long shorts.  It worked as a cover up for opening night as well.

6 -- My shopping day outfit, can you guess where I took this picture?  My white leather jacket with sleeves scrunched.

Inguun if you are reading this you will see I am full of contradictions.  Here I am wearing high contrast booties (picture 4) plus preferring my dress without dark stockings.  Go figure, ephemeral fashion.

WIW - Loungewear inspired by a tree

Every once in a while we share loungewear here on YLF.  This is my get-out-of-bed uniform most of the year.  (I don't do traditional loungewear.)  In the winter I add a chunky cardigan and booties.  I keep repeating variations on the theme of green and pink/red because it reminds me of this Mimosa tree.  Which matches my watermelon flip flops perfectly!  Oddly high happiness factor with these outfits -- I think it's the colors.

Jeans -- TR Cameron in Missouri wash (over 2 years old), both tees are from Gap, also 2 years ago.  Flip flops are new from H&M, purchased this month -- already the print is coming off, go fast fashion.

Anyone else purge their lounge/yoga pants in favor of boyfriend jeans?

WIW to get kicked off the jury

Here are several recent outfits.  Anna's thread about what do you look for in a WIW made me think it might be fun to present a collection of recent outfits.

1.  Worn to get excused from jury duty.  I purposely tried to look "different" so I would get excused.  I went through 4 hours of Voir Dire, then the attorneys have the right to excuse certain people without explanation (forgot the term for it).  It happens this way every time.  The prosecutor excuses me.  How can they tell that I am predisposed to support the underdog AND I feel a high burden of proof must come upon the prosecutors and police etc.  They seem to suss this out every time (defense attorneys have never excused me).

Outfit:  Raquel Allegra top, UO harem pants, Zara slides.

2.  Worn to my boyfriend's daughter's 8th grade graduation.  My hair was not this untidy!

Outfit:  Zara top, H&M track pants, Nordtsrom (brand?) ankle strap pumps.

3.  Brunch with boyfriend's family the day after graduation.

Outfit:  Madewell tee, Splendid sandals, Levi's jeans, J Crew boy's belt.

4.  I spent a few days in SF last week.  I love this Zara sweater but it is starting to get lopsided, even though it hasn't gone through the wash.  Oh Zara, ephemeral Zara.

Outift:  Zara sweater, UO jeans, Vic Italy booties.

5.  Another SF outfit:  Just Female leather moto, Diesel Black Gold sweater, Rag & Bone jeans, H&M tote bag.

Which is/are your favorites?  Thanks for looking and commenting!

Looking at these pictures I have noticed how I have gone back to lower priced shopping.  Not entirely but more than last year.  I have some thoughts about that, which I might share at a later point.

WIW - Harem pants with a hard edge

It struck me that this ensemble would work well with not only a tube skirt (on my wish list - see below) but also with black harem pants.  Since harem pants, with the dropped crotch, have something skirt-like about them.

Don't you think my dog Maggie, with her sweet face, provides some necessary softness to this hard edge outfit?

Top -- Soft Joie
Harems -- UO
Birks -- Zara

WIW - Age Appropriate Hard Edge

I'm continuing to love Spring because I can still wear pants, but with sandals if I feel like it.

These outfits look rather hard edge to me with all of the black.  But still I felt age appropriate so, happy with the results.  Yes I still worry about that, not wanting to be the fool but wanting to push the envelope a little too.  It's a fine line, isn't it.

1-2 The silky sweatshirt that Angie blogged about recently.  Angie picked this top in 2012 from Zara and I jumped on it.  Haven't worn it much because I fear it's not too flattering but I got a compliment from a woman standing in line at the Costco food court ($1.65 sundae).  She said people who wear leopard have a lot of confidence.  I told her, it was only in some areas of my life where I felt confident!

The sweatshirt is worn with:  Rag & Bone skinnies in Kensington wash, Vic Italy booties, Zara leather jacket also 2012, and Alexander Wang-esque bag from UO.  I got it in their SF store, it's made from re-cycled leather and has so many pockets that I call it my Lumosity bag.

3.   This was a WIMW a few weeks ago, and this time I actually wore it to an open mic night.  It's fast to put together and my boyfriend thought it looked rock and roll.  I thought, more art gallery opening in NYC due to the lack of leather, but I'll take it.

UO knit harem pants worn with:  UO sweater, Raquel Allegra tee, Steven sandals from 2010.  I think they still look current.  If you are interested in the UO harems, they are very cheap now.  Regarding the negative review, if you size up there is no discomfort at all in the waistband.

TFLAC = Thanks For Looking and Commenting!

(sounds like = AFLAC which US YLFers will know)

WIW - Feeling the color cream

It's Spring and we are having a beautiful week of weather in the 70s.  Compared to coastal California, we don't get as much perfection in the 70s, it's either cold or a lot hotter.  Anyway, I am feeling extra stylish when the weather is so stylish, hence my glut of WIW posts!  Hope you don't mind.

This is a quintessentially "me" outfit, I was happy with this one.  The jacket was a gift (used), it's IRO.  The last time I wore it y'all thought it looked too ladies who lunch, what do you think this time?

Jeans - Rag & Bone;  Booties - LD Tuttle; Tee - Everlane;  Belt - UO; Sunglasses - Anthropologie; Fringe clutch - Tylie Malibu.

WIW - Keeping the Mom jeans

135 mostly negative reactions to Angie's blog post about Mom jeans made me want to keep these.  And yes I have been accused of being a contrarian.

I kept the smaller of the two sizes.  I felt the smaller size had just that much  less volume in the thigh to make me happy.  I kept the outfit very simple.  Oh and I realized there is a major difference between these and boyfriends when worn untucked -- the boyfriends show pockets, these do not.  What do you think?  JFE or fashion victim?

My entire Mom jean journey can be followed here.

WIW - Jr. Theater

I had picked two potential outfits to wear to my boyfriend's daughter's play.  The Pirates of Penzance Jr., done by 7th and 8th graders.  At times I thought I was watching Waiting for Guffman Jr.  ;-)

My bf's ex was there, very awkward.  I didn't want to go too trendy, but I also wanted a touch of allure so no boyfriend/pajama/Mom/distressed jeans.

I wore the first one, we both felt it was more flattering.  The second one features my Peter Som digital print upscale tee from last Spring, a prized purchase that is now officially an orphan, have worn it once.  Maybe I need some new styling ideas.  I think the length of it is less flattering than the Vince tunic in the first outfit.

WIW - Very pink Angie pick sweater

When Angie showed this affordable ($60) Zara sweater I knew I had to own  it.  I got stared at in this --  probably because it's very pink and the curved hemline, roomy fit and drop shoulder seam aren't the norm here yet.  I think this actually called more attention towards me than the pajama jeans the day before.

I am very pleased with the sweater, it's 100% cotton and has the feel of a $200 garment.
