WIW on my break

I got a few days away last week to attend a friend's retirement party.  She retired at age 60 after 35 years on the same job (working for the county in insect abatement).  They have a surplus of wild boars in the county so that's what we ate -- it was a delicious BBQ.*

Pictures 1/2 -- What I wore to the retirement party and later on at the Valley Fair Mall in San Jose to make some NAS returns.  This is pretty much a repeat of one of my favorite outfits.

Pictures 3/4 -- What I'm wearing today.  Normally I don't post outfits like these but since it cleared of smoke this afternoon, I was excited to get outside and take some selfies!

Thanks for looking, commenting and most of all -- many thanks to all of you who have offered so much support on my Fire thread in the off topic section.

-------------
Outfit details:
1/2 -- Jeans Free People, Top Helmut by Helmut Lang, Booties Rag & Bone, Jacket Zara from last summer.  All via Shopbop except jacket.
3/4 -- Jeans True Religion (from their store, purchased last summer), tee and belt from H&M, fringe clutch from Tylie Malibu via Amazon.
-------------

*Wild Boar details:
For those interested, William Randolph Hearst imported wild Russian boars in the 1920s for his zoo.  Some of them escaped and mated with equally rogue, escaped domesticated pigs.  The result is a creature weighing 300-400 lbs who is quite destructive to local crops -- the Salinas Valley is a very important agricultural center.  I think the hunters had a depredation permit to get these.

    Ok so I adore #2.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Denise, you look so sunny yourself today,I would not have imagined the storm you are weathering. The party outfit is *brilliant* --- such a punch of colour on those muted neutrals. I would never have dreamt up the pairing---you are superb with colour coordination, clearly, and not just your signature tonals.

  • DonnaF replied 10 years ago

Wow!  I especially love the party outfit and the colors and pattern on you.  Am so relieved that you are still *around* and haven't had to evacuate, but the physical and economic devastation are pretty scary.  It looks like the wind must be blowing in the opposite direction since the sky looks blue?  Hope your throat and nose are okay or that you have a netty pot to flush them out.  I didn't post on your other thread, but I've been thinking of you.  Somewhere along the way, I somehow got it in my head that your ranch was in SoCal -- maybe because I don't think of ranches being in NorCal, lol.

So good to see you!  I was concerned about the effects of the fire on your home and livelihood!

    My favorite?  That amazing jacket.

I love me a good pig roast.  But then, I"m a good midwestern girl!

  • anne replied 10 years ago

So glad you're safe. And you look very hip in your party/returning outfit.

Like the shoes in pic 3!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

You are stunning in the party outfit. The colors are gorgeous on you and contribute so much to the chic look. What a great bag, too! Heading to "off topic" to read your post. . . .

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Glad the smoke is clearing :) YLF - I love #2 those neutrals look amazing on you.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

    That jacket is too awesome.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

#2 is killing me!  Love it!  (Also, love #1!)  I didn't see your thread about the fire situation - I'm so sorry and hope that you are OK!

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

So good to see you again. Looking wonderful as always.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Love the gray skinnies! I have some on the way that I ordered yesterday. Your party outfit has given me some ideas. I am glad to have you back posting on the forum.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

You look smashing. I love that little touch of orange in your last outfit.

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

    I adore #1-2.

Interesting info about the boars, thanks for sharing.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Loving the jagged necklace in #3/4 juxtaposed with the distressed denim and bag. Too FAB!

  • replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous in both of these! Wow.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

I love your style! Love the boho/trendy vibe!

#1 is fab! love the jeans in #3/4

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Happy to see you are OK and so stylish, Denise, no matter what. I'm so so sorry you had to deal with that  fire and  all between and after....Have some better days now, and relieve! Hugs.

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

I love the jacket on you, really fab! It is also a delight to see your attention to detail in 3/4, with the flashes of brights here and there in an otherwise neutral color scheme. I'm glad to hear that you are ok.

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

You look stunning in every pic! So glad that you and your loved ones are safe, and that you are able to resume some simple pleasures.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

So wonderful to see you post, and look at those blue skies! That must be welcome relief. Really glad to know you are still safe.

I love your first outfit -- it seems quintessentially "Denise" and really relaxed, hip, and also elegant.

Love the at-home outfit, too. Those jeans are fab and you introduced us all to them! Yay for starting a YLF lemming trend.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Great to see you back!  Love both outfits -what a beautiful blazer in #1 and I also love how in #3 your necklace (esp. from a distance) has such an interesting effect at the top of the white tee.

In Texas we also have the wild boar problem and sometimes I see one down on the big ranch crossing the creek.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Love your #3 outfit esp. glad to hear the smoke is clearing. I am glad to see you are alright and hope your business will pick up as the road is repaired.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

So glad you were able to get outside Denise and enjoy some fresh air. And I'm glad you, BF and fur babies are all safe.

Love the retirement outfit - again with that fantastic tonal look. And you make a tee and distressed jeans look so nonchalantly fabulous in your second outfit. That fringed clutch is to die for!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

You look great!  I love the retirement outfit and the sandals and necklace in #2 are subtle pops of color.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

#1 and #2 are so Denise. How can they not be killer outfits. You own the Sleek Trendy Boho Chic Fashion Movement. And as a farm girl, your Modern and Pacific Urban style is incomparable. And inspirational.

Love to you and your fur babies. So glad to see blue sky. xo

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Totally love all of these!! Especially that colorful jacket with the nude.

    Woah, interesting about the boars!

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

Two fab outfits, Denise.  I really like the color scheme of your party outfit - it's not something I would have thought of at all but it works so well!  Also, the combo of those boots and skinnies is just perfect.  I don't know what it is but they look so good together.

Glad to hear the smoke is finally clearing!  And how fascinating about the boars.  We went to Hearst Castle on our honeymoon and it was really interesting - WR Hearst was a really eccentric guy, it seems.  We learned that he also had zebras in the zoo that got out and apparently their descendants are still around mingling with the local horse population.  And I saw one by the side of the highway!  (Sadly was too slow to get a photo though.)

  • RoseandJoan replied 10 years ago

Denise you have made me fall in love with skinnies all over again, sigh.

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

These are both so gorgeous!  I love the little neon peeking out from the holes in the second outfit.  Did you add that?

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

So, so lovely!  You look so beautiful in all of these, Denise.  You are so very pretty and know yourself and your style so well.  :)

  • LoveSarahDub replied 10 years ago

I'm in love with your first outfit! What great style you have! From your description of the events, I'd say you made perfect decisions. You look relaxed but still so effortlessly put-together!

I'm DYING for that bag, by the way!

  • AnnieMouse replied 10 years ago

That jacket in the first? To die for! Such a lovely pallette on you!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

So glad you are safe! I'm sorry for everything you've been through and that your business is down because of the fire.
You look fabulous as always. You are so striking--a real head turner. You should be a model! #2 is my favorite! And love the necklace in #3!

  • AJ replied 10 years ago

Squee! You are so effortlessly cool, I can't stand it! #1 is so awesome!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

I love both of these (especially #2).  Like others said, you're what I hope to look like when I wear skinnies.

  • Asingh replied 10 years ago

That jacket is such a statement piece. Love the coral necklace popping out in outfit #3.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

#1 in particular is amazing. The jacket is lovely and the colours are just so perfect on you Denise. It's such a cool, modern, trendy look and you rock it.

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 10 years ago

Nice boyfriend jeans and awesome jacket. Jackets like that have my total attention. I like a special one.

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

You stopped me in my tracks with photo 1, Denise!  Every inch of what you're wearing is perfection and what a body you have on which to display it!  Gorgeous.  Skinnies were made for you.

Now, please tell me why I see a pattern of pink and green in photos 3 and 4?  Are these tights?  You clever thing.

So happy that you are doing okay with the fires and I hope Yosemite and Tuolumne are getting a bit safer, too.  Thanks for the boar lesson; I never knew.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Wow! You look amazing, as usual! And, uh, pass the wild boar, please! ;)

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Wow Denise, 1/2 blew me away. I love you in this top, the color is so soft and feminine and the neckline and the shoulder line are just beautiful on you. the blazer and the clutch are stunning - you simply rock them. Best of all - your face and your smile in these photos, you look so happy and beautiful!

3/4 is great too, very Denise, very everyday, very life! Please DO post outfits like this, one of the best things about YLF community is that here we show what we wear for and in everyday life, often in front of our own cameras and tripods, and that normalcy factor for me personally is priceless and more inspiring for my style journey than any wear-it-for-the-daily-post blog outfit.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I am late here but I need to tell you how much I love you in those grey skinnies.  PERFECTION!

  • replied 10 years ago

Denise I am so happy to hear you are safe (from the fire and any extraneous wild boars)! You look stunning here in all of your soft neutral glory. 1-2 are just incredible, and look at that figure! Wowza!

  • replied 10 years ago

You look amazing Denise. What gorgeous muted shades in 2. And you do indeed have a fab figure, sooo jealous!

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

You have crazy style! These are both so, so fab! I found the boar history lesson really interesting and I wouldn't want to come face to face with one of these!! Glad your skies are clearing up so you can enjoy your fall.
