WIW - Animal Sweater and a Work Outfit(!)

I got this fox sweater on the cheap at Old Navy.  It called to me because of a childhood nickname, kind of silly and I shall spare you the details.  ;-)  I like the camel color, which I am starting to learn is a good neutral on me.

And in picture 2 you are seeing a rare work outfit.  Parsley recently posted an outfit with a longer blazer and wondered if that jacket style was still relevant.  My advice was to pair it with trendy items.  Well I have ignored my own advice and here you see me wearing a trio of pieces around 3 years old.  My thinking was that, as I was unsure about these pieces, I could try demoting them to my work capsule.  Yes my work wardrobe contains demoted pieces because they get stained being a server.  I do not feel comfortable wearing valuable or new things at least.

I am happy with how this turned out, clogs, apron and all.  Happy to have a different look (it is so slow now I am less concerned about looking the food service professional).  Although I've moved onto different looks for my non-work outfits, I am happy to give these older pieces one last bit of life.

Thanks for looking and commenting.  What about you, do you demote?

That fox sweater is precious! And I love the colbalt stripes!

I think you look GREAT!...clogs, apron, and all! :)

I love that fox sweater! And I agree it is a nice color on you. I would be very impressed to be served by you in that outfit. It looks very pulled together and I like the bold stripes. Strangely enough I am not much of a demoter. I try to take good care of my things, but sometimes I love something so much I don't demote or move on when I should. Last week my boss asked me if my baby got my shoulder in the morning, when really it was just a slightly bleached out spot on my favorite tunic. I love the tunic and usually I color in the spot with a marker, but it always washes out again, and that particular morning I had no time and figured no one would notice. Well, I guess I won't make that mistake again.

LUV #1! You do minimalist cool cat so well! #2 still looks current to me, but then again I'm not in your advanced style league. I actually don't demote, I just donate pieces that don't sing to me anymore.

Adore that sweater ... what does the fox say? ;)

    "I have awesome glasses" ? :p

Fabulous fox sweater! I also like your workwear a lot. In my lifestyle, demoting usually means garden work wear, so no blazers for that :)

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Love both!  Tanya just posted this sweater - if only it was a color I could wear!  I love the longer jacket and am on the hunt for a current one.

You look delicious in that camel color, and I love it with the gray.

I demote tees. But maybe less so now because I'm trying not to wear them to work as much in the first place ;-)

I adore the fox sweater on you! The whole outfit is fab, with those great neutrals.
The work outfit is fun--why not wear old favorites to work, if you can do so? My demotions are more from "things I would wear to get together with friends" to "things I'll wear when I'm not planning to leave the house, other than maybe do an errand." For work I dress a little less casual than I do on my days off.

Great outfits, as you say the camel is a great neutral on you. It is interesting to see the shift in your style CL. I feel that your look has become softer, edgier & more creative looking all at the same time.

You and Tanya are foxy twins! Love both of these. I especially love the tan with grey. So chic! Fab work outfit too!

The sweater is lovely and the tones is beautiful on you Denise:). And your work outfit is fab. Great idea to demote older pieces:)

    Fun sweater!

I like your work look a lot too. I think that is a great way to eke out a last bit of life from well-loved items.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Smiling that you and Tanya posted the sweater on the same day! It's fun on you!

And I like the work look, too.

Very interesting about demotions. I can't really do this as there is nothing to demote to. I do have one sweater which I used to wear out but now wear only for loungewear.

I love the fox sweater! I have an owl sweater, also from Old Navy, that I love. I think the fabrication is similar (it's #8):

    The Learning Curve, October

I usually demote winter sweaters from work to casual weekend wear. If I end up not wearing them even for that, then out the door they go.

That fox sweater is too cute!!  And the second outfit doesn't look dated to me.  Burgundy is very much in and so is cobalt!  Stripes were never out ........ there you go .... a trendy outfit :)

I love your demotions! Aren't long jackets coming in not out? What is that jacket - it looks fantastic with the striped sweater. My new stuff should look so good!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I think long jackets are coming back around. (And now I have that Cake song in my head "Short Skirt, Long Jacket") I tried a long Theory blazer recently but it was *too* long and just made me look bottom-heavy.

That fox sweater is adorable on you, and I like the combination with grey. I think I need those booties. ;-) And you look great in your work outfit!

ETA: I definitely demote stuff. I'm actually excited that I've just found a whole new way to demote items in my wardrobe -- I'm taking a box of stuff to Texas where my husband's ranch is! I figure we'll visit there often enough that I may as well keep clothes there, and it's a dirty working cattle ranch, so take stuff that I don't mind ruining. :-D

That fox sweater is cute as can be, and you're probably the sharpest looking server around in your jacket (clogs, apron, and all!)
Demoting things to work wear is a great way to get some more life out of your nice things that are no longer cutting edge.

so cute! I wanted to buy one militar green with a leopard just a few minutes ago but they didn't had my number..

  • replied 10 years ago

You and Tanya both look great in that fox sweater!  And I love the jacket with the stripes.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

The fox sweater is adorable, love the color on you and the splash of pink. Did you intend to bookend the sweater with the fall leaves? ;) To me you are looking quite glamorous in 2.

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Fun sweater!  I think it's great to have a use for pieces you are no longer favorites, but still have value.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

(Shevia is right. Long jackets are fringe trending. Your style crush Rachel Zoe has many in her collection this season).

Denise, you and Tanya have blown me away with your Foxy looks. Too adorable - and mega trendy - for words. I'm loving it. And your work outfit is fantastic too. Well done Mega Stylish Farm Girl. xo

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Cute foxy top!  And a lovely color on you.  I also demote items, for me, they become horseback riding gear.

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I love the fox.  I demote some items to lounge wear but I don't think I've ever looked as pulled together as you do in demoted items.  ;)

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

I really like those neutrals paired together in the first outfit. I wouldn't have thought to put them together, but it's such a sophisticated look. The foxy sweater is cute!

Great look for work too! I wish I looked as put together as you do for my demoted outfit days.
