WIW -- My Late September Lookbook

Forgive the "lookbook" conceit...

I have a little more time now for doing things that require smart casual attire -- meals out, concerts, socializing. Yay! I finally get to wear my clothes. It is still in the 90s here, the hottest summer on record, so I am dressing accordingly yet keeping the colors neutral and more pointed towards fall.

Even the most cursory look shows that I rely on certain formulas (hello jeans + tee?) ...any suggestions how to keep things fresh?

Thank you!

The look in 2 is awesome CocoLion and I love the simple but lovely outfit in 4 too:)

  • Louise replied 11 years ago

Ooo I love your look book idea. Great outfits my fav is #1 but they are all great. Love the ones accessories with Labs x

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

LOL Louise... yes my Labs frequently want to get in the picture.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Love your signature look - & your labs. I am really drawn to the navy & grey; it's spring here & I have been wearing them together & loving them.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Love the lookbook and my favourite pages are 1 & 2. You are rocking those print pants.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

The lookbook is brilliant, and I really adore #2, but the rest is also very interesting. Your distinct style suits you perfectly, and I have no suggestions for improvement. Maybe a pencil skirt instead of jeans/pants every now and then? You've proved so may times in your comments that you have impeccable taste and make sound choices:)

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

    CocoLion.... Labs are adorable!!!!

The belt in pic2 takes centre stage- could see some neck bling or scarf really lifting this outfit to super fab!
I love looking at your casual outfits, they are often in my style- aspiration direction.

I love your style! You always manage to have an easy, simple, but so chic style! Loved the photos and the comments!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

What fun! These are classic Denise looks. I love 1, 2, and 4 in red.

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

Right out of a catalog- so consistently cool, relaxed and perfect with your figure and personality! Love all of these looks on you!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

So fun! You are just crazy amounts of cool, Denise! My fave is page 4 but they are all just amazing!

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

You've got your look down to a science. Since you asked for ways to keep it fresh, how about silky drapey shirts in place of the t-shirts, when cooler weather arrives?

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

    adore. very you, very modern.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

First, may I just say, for someone who is hunting for leather jackets, you seem already to have a couple of GREAT ones in your closet!! And I am amazed you can wear them in 90 degree temps.

Also awed by your outfits. As Laura says, you have it down to a science. Especially love #2.

I also love your distinction between everyday casual and smart casual. For me, that's pretty much the reigning distinction, too, and it feels important to vary the look somehow. In your case, you've done a great job of that with tradeouts in the type of jean, top, accessory. Same basic pieces, different looks.

I do see how you might want to vary things a bit sometimes. As Laura says, once it cools down a bit, maybe a blouse or two? Or...dare I say it....a skirt?

I love your lookbook format, Denise!
Your casual outfits are all great, and you have absolutely defined your personal style.
I loved seeing how you wore the VC slouchy pants, since I have the same ones and needed some inspiration for different ways to wear them. The light-colored leather jacket with them looks great!

As far as suggestions: how about wearing a skirt more often just for variety? I know you look super in them, and I find them to be cool to wear in hot weather. Dressing well in hot weather is such a challenge since much layering is out of the question.
I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to cooler weather so that I can add more interesting layers and boots and mix things up a little.

So cool how you've shown your outfits in a Look Book style. You wear casual and smart casual so incredibly well Denise - it really is "your" look. But it's nice to change things up here and there so once it cools off some for you, how about a long sleeve slouchy knit or a blouse? midi skirt with boots and tee with leather jacket?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I love the way you presented your looks, Denise!

All KILLER, and that includes your fab lab who graces your shots with as much verve as his Mama.

High five daytime clutch user! There are only 5 of us on YLF who are into daytime clutches at the moment. A very small Team. Perhaps it will grow?

Love the lookbook conceit! I don't think it's conceit but just the natural conduit for your awesome style!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love the lookbook idea! I am sure the notes will be very handy when next summer rolls around to remind you what you wore where.

I rely on this jeans + tee formula as well... sometimes they are jeans shorts, but not a huge difference. I don't have great ideas to mix it up, because I'm simply tired of the heat and tired of dressing for it. We haven't had a summer like this in a long time!

  • Kat replied 11 years ago

you have such a cool style, CocoLion-showcased fabulously here! Not a bad one in the bunch, maybe a relaxed silky button down blouse or silky tank under the leather toppers once it gets cooler?

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

go lookbook! I am doing the same in weeks...just trying to keep control of what I use, what I love, what I hate...

Your casual normal style and elevated are totally you and I think I have seen the first one before...but the second one, in those 'tweed?' slacks...oh my ....very nice, yes, very very nice!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

I will be the first to sign up on your lookbook mailing list!!

I'd list everything I'm bowled over by, but it would be easier just to send your whole lookbook back to you! LOL.

I wish I didn't look so butch in muscle tees. I LOVE yours!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Thanks ladies! It is so hard to keep my doggers out of the picture -- "no" doesn't always mean "no" to a Lab :-) I also have a border collie and a tabby cat but they are more modest, preferring to stay out of the spotlight.

Yes Angie -- high five day time clutch user! My neck and shoulders are so much better off.

I'm glad you like my conceit. I'm really just a nerd who likes to make powerpoint slides.

I love the idea of pencil skirts and silky blouses. I could also pull out more button downs. And flares change it up as well.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I think these all look perfect. Personally I often feel I am a one-trick pony. It's sort of hard to find the right balance between branching out and working the things that work. I think you do this though--outfit 2 for example is quite different. Just as soon as I find a fab bargain clutch, I will be on team daytime clutch.

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

You may be the Queen of the Semi Tuck! I love your look book and the grace with which you wear jeans and drapey tops. Wonderful.

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

Love the looks as always, but may I say you look absolutely stunning in that red tee. That color up by your face is gorgeous.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Love your everyday and elevated everyday casual style! You may have a formula but somehow you manage to make them all look so fresh! Fun slide show, Denise! I loved looking through it :)

  • san replied 11 years ago

You really know your style and wear it so well. Love it.

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

How cool! Love your lookbook no all your looks, you stylish model, you!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Totally fun! I love "elevated casual" - that's my favorite of your book. You could add in a skirt for some change, but these are definitely your go-to uniform for a good reason!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

What a fantastic way to document your outfits! #2 is stunning. Those pants look different on different people and you made them totally your own. There is a consistency in your style yet I never feel like I've seen it all before:).

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

You look wonderful! The fit of everything is perfect, and I love how you have elevated your casual looks into something special, going well beyond your environmental norm. Are you bored with your style and want to mix things up, or do you just think you *should* mix things up more? I think the consistency in your style is fabulous.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

All so unique - all so beautifully you! Thank you for sharing your look book!
