WIW -- Early October 2012

My latest installation of the CocoLion Lookbook series...

1) Weather was still very warm. This is the first close-up I have ever posted, being uncomfortable about the obvious signs of photo-aging as well neck creasing. This is a step in acceptance for me.

2) Because I wear my bf jeans longer, I am having no problems transitioning to fall. The jacket is worn inside-out to hide the dated Da Nang patch :-\ as well as to give a nod to the printed jacket trend.

3) The glory of bf jeans. These are my most fitted pair, sized down two sizes to a 25 to get this fit. Note to self -- wear them a little lower on hips. There is a bit of a high water vibe here, oh well I am kind of nerdy. :-D

Thanks for looking / commenting / suggesting and love to you all!

I love those True Religion Bajas. Love #2 followed by #3.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

OMG, I LOVE #3. That is super fab! Are you wearing tights underneath the BF jeans? The peek of color through the tears is fun. You look like a rock star--effortlessly chic. I die for that moto jacket. It's amazing on you. #2 is gorgeous and neutral--how cool that the jacket is reversible! Great colors and accessorizing in 1. You look beautiful in your close up--I see nothing of what worries you.

You've just totally given me some ideas on how to wear those nude booties I thrifted with BF jeans! Love #2! (well, all three outfits really, but especially #2).

And Denise - you have a gorgeous face and beautiful skin. Truly!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Amazon has the Baja's in 28 and 30. I'm usually a 29. What do you suggest?

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Ooh. I have bootie envy. I love how effortless your outfits look. So nice.

  • Makrame replied 11 years ago

Great photos! Love your outfits and the backdrops of your photos, and you look great! Both nude and blue booties look prefect with the jeans.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Great looks! You're very stylish. I love #3 with the jacket on.

Anna, I just realized I called them Camerons when they are Briannas, but you probably figured that out. The Amazon reviews crack me up. (BTW I saw them on this site for less.) http://www.djpremium.com/shop/.....oduct.html

I found these to run very large. I have Camerons in 27 (1 pair) and 26 (2 pairs) and 25 (these). I would say a 28 would work great for you. Or you could even try the 27s but in hindsight I am wishing I had stuck with the 26s for a more oversized fit.

When I pull these out of the drier they are snug like skinny jeans but they stretch quite a bit. 100% cotton, they stay up and don't slide like jeans with lycra.

Kelly and Shannon -- you are so sweet with the close up comment! Thank you!

Kelly -- I'm not wearing tights, they are patched with a kind of Mexican blanket material.

Totally loving the arm candy, totally loving the lace t-shirt! I am hooked on your lookbooks.

I applaud your closer-up photos. I can relate to your feelings although like Kelly, I have no idea what you're talking about. But for my own part, I just finished reading Nora Ephron's "I Feel Bad About My Neck" because well, I feel bad about my neck :)

Coco I love the DV booties in #3! That whole look is tough and feminine at the same time - cool! Good job on the lookbooks - you are an artist!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Wow - love the LookBook looks in totality but stand outs are that purple top and arm candy in #1 and the DV Booites in #3.

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

I really like your LookBooks Denise! And how clever, flipping your jacket inside-out. #2 is simple yet strong. P.S. I used to wear a bunch of DaNang too :)

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

I so love #3 (and am trying to love my neck, but it's a hard slog), but you look fab in all three outfits. I'm so impressed with your lookbook series. I thought I recognized those teal suede DV booties. I have them in orange.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Great looks, and I especially love #2 and #3. You can certainly rock those BFs with booties!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

You have a great look imo - relaxed, interesting & you capture the masculine/feminine elements so well. I think you look beautiful in your close up. Self -acceptance is a wonderful gift.

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

How do you manage to look so long-legged in BF jeans!? Too cool, all of these looks. And as for your close up, I think you look beautiful.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You have KILLER style, Denise. End of story. I am in awe.

Look at you rocking that lace with your aviators and turquoise boots!!! Good grief. Jennifer Aniston wished she looked as brilliant as you do. You my dear, have busloads more verve and attitude :)

I adore your gorgeous texture-rich neck!! Thanks for allowing us to admire it from close up.

And how clever are you to wear your jacket inside out. WOW!

I hereby crown you Queen Arm Candy, Queen Gorgeous Neck and Queen Cool - cause there is no substitute for cool when it comes to Denise :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Denise, you are so inspiring to me in these denim looks! I love you in that purple in #1. But most of all I love the jeans...these really remind me of those Heritage BR slouchy skinnies that I have and every time you post an outfit I get more ideas for them.

By the way, any luck on the leather jacket hunt?

And thank you for your colour compliments on my post. I suspect you WOULD look good in that cranberry colour. I am darker than you, though, so it's tough to say. You seem like a true blonde to me. Whereas I'm a mousy blonde!

You might be a "light" summer? (in the colour terminology?) I am supposedly (and somewhat surprisingly, to the person who typed me) a "true" summer and so I wear deeper shades better than one might imagine. Fuchsia. This cranberry or raspberry. Charcoal. They're my "power colours."

I love your casual october looks! My favorite is #3 with the lace and those gorgeous booties. Love your arm candy.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I am feeling so good with all of your neck love! I am laughing aloud at Angie's "texture rich neck." After finally coming to accept my crow's feet, now I've suddenly noticed my neck. I have taken better care of the skin on my face. Word to ladies who are in their 20s, 30s and 40s: take care of your neck, chest, hands and forearms as you do your face. I mean it! :-D

I wasn't sure if anyone noticed, I got a hair cut. (Picture 3) When I first joined YLF, I was losing a lot of hair. Wasn't sure if it was hormonal or stress. Not all, but a good amount of it has grown back. I am comfortable with this shoulder length bob. I can still tie it back so no one finds hair in their salad. :-o

Suz -- Thanks for the color suggestion. I looked up "light summer" and yes my complexion is like Naomi Watts more than some of the other examples (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Middleton). It used to be quite pink like Naomi but it has become yellower (is that what "sallow" means?) as I age. Here is the palette I found for light summer.

Do you remember Angie's purple vs. burgundy blog a few weeks ago? I have been thinking a lot about that. I do find that purple looks better than burgundy right next to my face. Here is a swatch.

I really like the new haircut, it is very flattering. Love it in 3.

  • replied 11 years ago

You need to be styling photo shoots, these are amazing! All great, but my personal favorite is #3. You are so rocker chic!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I love the new haircut too! It makes you look even prettier :)

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

denise, lightening up on your hair length makes you look both younger and age appropriate...like you are committed to staying true to your style and are very comfortable with who you are at this life stage, so the confidence adds a lot of yoythful vigor that comes thru in the photos.

does that make sense? it sounds so frou frou but that is hiw i feel about you, so there!

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

You and I have similar coloring, like Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Watts, as you mentioned. You are a cool blonde. Compare that to Kate Hudson, who is a warm blonde. Does that make sense?

And I hope everyone understands that I use "cool" in the true sense of the word! :)
