WIW -- Loose and Tight Pants Comparison

So for the past year I've been moving towards looser pants / boyfriend jeans. However I do still participate in the skinny jeans look. Here are three looks taken over three consecutive days, I am around 5 lb heavier than normal due to the restaurant being closed. You can see those 5 lbs with the skinny jeans/high contrast outfit, but the looser pants totally hide my love of Lindor Truffles!

1/2 -- Lunch with my Mom's financial advisors. Bellatrix bird baseball jacket from Nordstrom, H&M viscose track pants.

3 -- The super tight pants (self-distressed 7FAM), with a Zara sweatshirt.

4 -- Skinny jeans 2 sizes up from above jeans, from Levi's. $6.99 at Urban Outfitters! Daftbird henley from Shopbop.

Thanks for looking and commenting and any ideas how to hide 5 lbs are welcome!

5 lbs? Really? Honestly, I can't tell. The only thing I know when something needs to be hidden, is to wear looser fits, and that you already know. Nothing looks to tight here to me. I particularly love the first outfit. The Bellatrix jacket is so fab!

You look great, Denise! I can't figure out where you are hiding those 5 lbs. Everything looks like it fits so well and you look so sleek. Great outfits--I must say that I love the bomber with the track pants the most. SO fresh and fashionable. You rock skinnies too!

I love you in the looser pants and the skinny jeans. You rock all these looks, 5lbs more or not! The 5lbs doesn't show though :)

The best way to hide 5 lbs is with your impish and adorable smile!!

Seriously, I see no excess poundage here at all and I LOVE all these looks!

How did you go about doing your distressing?

And for the Levis, was that just a lucky find or what? Is this the first successful "size up" you've done? I know in the past you said that didn't work for you.

I really like the 'track pant' too, Denise!
I can't properly see the waist area, but I love the effect of the tucking of the white shirt with them.
The Levis sized-up look very good.
    Hi to Kitty in #1.

    #1/2 is great.
I adore your big white Zara sweatshirt.

You look fab in all these looks! I know it doesn't support your position, but I think my favorite is #3! Love the roomy-over-slim and LOVE the arm party!

  • siniestra replied 11 years ago

i don't look those 5lbs that u are talking about and I'm brutally honest ;) i love ur styling!!! that's I will never get tired of saying but im not liking number 1 ..idk why ...

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I think they all look great - I can't see the 5lbs either.

  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago

FAbulous bomber jacket with the track pants look.

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

i know how you feel about the 5# so there is no sense in me trying to talk you out of knowing your weight is up.

BUT, you do look fab skinny jeans or looser leiths. i adore the skinnies and oversize sweatshirt look just as much as i love the woven button up tops with the looser pant.

  • Isis replied 11 years ago

You look seriously great in BOTH the loose and the tight pants. I don't see any bulges or our of proportion looks here. Honestly.

And your tops make the tighter pants as trendy as the looser ones. YLF!

(And I love the way your jeans in 3 bookend the barn!)

You must just be using all of the dressing tricks in the book because seriously, you look slimmer than you've ever looked to me. And I'm not flattering you, I mean it. Okay now that I look closer I see that you've sized up (welcome to the club) in the last picture. I *can* tell a difference between that shot and the one with the burgundy skinnies. The darkness of the burgundy jeans is probably slimming in it's own right.

Five pounds or not, you look tiny in all versions. I'm looking for some new styling options for some Alexander Wang track pants I have, so I'm loving 1&2. That bird print coat is amazing! The white sweatshirt looks so great, as do your legs in the skinny jeans. So inspiring as always Denise!

I think they all look good. I've been considering that Bellatrix jacket, but went with the blue floral one (K/R coming soon). If I knew how to conceal the extra lbs I'd be rich. I'm pushing into dangerous territory and need to get back on track soon (but I have a love of caramel corn and now it's Easter and malted milk eggs are EVERYWHERE)

You are doing a great job of hiding that little 5 pound food baby! When I am up in weight I usually get rid of my waistline - dresses or more skimming tops (like the sweatshirt). And blazers give a great silhouette too. Or I put on my muffin top makers to encourage me to stay on track!

I was also looking at the Bellatrix jacket - can you recommend it? Do you find it a bit short? Doesn't look short on you but just wondered in general if it is a shorter jacket.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You look as fab in skinnies :)

Loving you in that big white Zara sweatshirt!

#1 is KILLER. Hope you had a fun lunch!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

You look chic in everything you wear, Denise. And I could not find those 5 lbs anywhere. I sympathize, though, because I'm at least 5 heavier than when I left The Rack. You really feel it at our heights. I'm sure you will be back to normal in no time. :)

  • replied 11 years ago

Your outfits are as awesome as your pictures. You are so friggin cool, ack!

I don't see the 5 ( I see mine though). I keep on going up and down five pounds ;(
Rae: Trust me, I feel them at my height too. Five pounds of butt, not easy, not easy.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

You guys crack me up and I see I'm not alone in the 5-pound fret.

Tomorrow we re-open the cafe, we had a business meeting today and everyone looked 5 if not 20 lbs heavier! Except the guys who's hooked on cry-mth, he never changes (and boy is he a meticulous cleaner!). So even though we are around fries and burgers all day, we move around a lot, the kitchen crew, chefs and servers!

Regarding the Bellatrix jacket, I saw it while browsing Nordies in LA. I think the quality is high for something that now sells for under $35. The workmanship, the trim. Yes it's poly but not a clingy poly. I do not find it runs short but I am very shortwaisted. In picture one I have it folded under, it is long enough for me to do that.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

And Suz, yes, this is my first successful sizing up attempt! The waist is very high on these jeans though, so I should belt it otherwise the slouch looks weird. (I find slouchy works better on mid to low rise, not high rise - on me at least.)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, Denise - this is useful info for me as I continue my searches!!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I see no 5 pound issue here. Everything fits you well and flatters whether fitted or slouchy. Am in love with outfit 2!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

I am dismissing your 5lbs. as invisible to everyone but you - not that I don't relate to the feeling, but I truly have no idea where you think it is showing. I love you in all these levels of tightness and am very impressed with your sized up levi's! I have been intentionally thrifting jeans in all sorts of sizes to play with the fit, and this is very inspiring! Also love the sweatshirt - I am loving lots of Zara stuff lately.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Love all of these looks, Denise. You are a master of silhouette, and know how to make any pant style work!

Sounds like you'll see be in training! Food service isn't for the slothful!
