WIW -- Wearing something from the dinosaur age

This sweater is pre-YLF. It is not trendy like a lot of my stuff, but it has held up really well, and is washable. Mostly I was very excited to show you how perfectly matchy my scarf and bag are!

My 80s love of neon has happily found a place in my wardrobe through accessories -- a bag, a scarf and a belt!

Thanks for looking and commenting.

    KILLER

I LOVE neon lime green! (high five '80s gal). You are as fresh and fab as a Spring daisy, and with a dinosaur to boot.

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

Interesting. You really are trendy and this sweater does not look you... yet, I would wear it gladly LOL

Having said that, I love its color on you and I like matchy-matchy action and overall color scheme. It's serene and vibrant at the same time, and reminds me of the spring-theme window shops I keep seeing around me (while the snow is still stubbornly on the ground).

LOVE!! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

    TIMES A MILLION!!!

Thanks Angie ... I remember my huge struggle with the neon lime / highlighter yellow jeans. It was a real struggle for me to figure out how to make this color work in my wardrobe. I've also tried neon tops but they also felt OTT on me.

BTW I am pretty much done buying distressed denim! I returned both pairs -- the Rag & Bone and the Vigoss -- that were up for debate. The salesman at Barney's Coop told me distressed denim might be a *little* age inappropriate and he got me into a faded yet completely hole-free pair of slouchy skinnies from Current Elliott -- yet to post a WIW with them. :-)

    *chuckle*

Did you tell the Barneys SA that you live on a farm!! If distressed jeans would be age appropriate in any context - I vote farm a billion times over.

Excited to see your new jeans Queen Denim.

I love the neon with aqua, it's so dang fresh! Your sweater is darling, and you look impish, so I think it all makes you quite happy. YAY!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

You look gorgeous even in a dinosaur! I LOVE this color scheme, and you make the neon work all the way. The sweater looks so cuddly that I feel like giving you a hug:) That scarf is so fab, too!

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Aah! Love that citron on you, and love it with the blue touches and the blue dinosaur ;-)

Funny, I don't remember neon citron from the 80s. All I can remember is the neon pink, neon orange, and neon lime green I had in a fanny pack and a baseball type cap -- worn for safety while jogging!

I much prefer your neon citron ;-)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Denise, I'll wear the holes for you ;) Love the touches of neon, as I agree full neon jeans are a bit OTT.

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit! These colors look great together. Very spring-y colors in a winter appropriate outfit. The sweater may not be trendy but the neon accessories are and they elevate the whole outfit.

  • DonnaF replied 11 years ago

LOVE the neon with the blue! With something like neon jeans, I can just imagine getting ballpoint ink, gravy, or mud on them, then trying to get out the stain, and then ending up with a lighter patch from color coming off. YKWIM? Since your legs are shapely and slender, maybe you could also get neon tights if you wear that sort of thing.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

I love the outfit too! But especially the adorable expression on your face. You look serene, must be the fabness!

  • Aziraphale replied 11 years ago

Oh my, you are always so adorable. :-) I just love that scarf. Ten out of ten!

(And I like the title of your post)

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

This is the perfect amount of neon! It's not burning my eyes, but it's got great punch. Love it!

  • replied 11 years ago

Love the neon accessories, and that sweater is still a keeper!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

LOVE! The bag and scarf are plenty trendy for the whole outfit - love those colors with the gray cardi. The neon looks really cool here - this is coming from an 80s-phobe. :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

You look beautiful in this colour combination, Denise. GORGEOUS!! And yes, it's an unusual look for you, but in my opinion, you make it shine.

Now I am curious to hear what your MOST worn pair of shoes are. I wore my Joust booties by Dolce Vita almost into the ground in the fall...they are looking the worse for the wear.

Should have bought the Rag and Bone version. Maybe I still will.

And did you get the same Current Elliot jeans that TinaB has? I was eyeing those as a possibility. I want to try for some non-distressed slouchy skinnies, too.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Neon + cobalt = GORGEOUS!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Squeeeeeee! I got that same bag to tote my laptop/work papers in too!

I haven't used mine yet. My current yellow / tan one is holding out longer than I expected.

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Great way to do neons! Taking notes over here... I love that color too (my tablet case is neon green!)

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

This is a gorgeous combo! I like the way you tastefully added the neon so it calls attention but doesn't overwhelm. You look great!

  • biscuitsmom replied 11 years ago

Absolutely agree! You look fab, indeed :)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Don't despair ladies I will continue to wear my distressed jeans. I do have 3 pairs of distressed jeans already. And I have plenty of faded jeans as well.

I have to check which faded C/Es Tina has, Suz. I know they are a recent wash because Barney's Co-op turns over their denim inventory really quickly. I went in to try another Rag & Bone wash, one that Shopbop is still selling at full price, and the SA told me "those were from last season but I vaguely remember them." Gotta love Barney's, they have a way of putting you down but still making you want to buy something.

My #1 worn shoes are my Vintage Shoe Co. black Western-vibe Chelsea booties. I had both those and the DVs re-heeled in the fall. I have the benefit of minimal elements damaging footwear and automobiles. The Vintages were $300, the DVs $50. Showing that it *is* possible to find great things that last at low prices.

ETA -- not the same as Tinab's. These (couldn't find them at Barney's on line, maybe they are from last season too!) http://www.revolveclothing.com.....%2FElliott

They are substantially looser on me, I got the bigger of my 2 sizes.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Very nice! Scarf and bag are magnifiques. And who would have known about the sweater? You did well to keep it.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I LOVE this - so fresh & modern. This really speaks to me - neutral, well-fitting casual outfit with a great bag & scarf - did I say I love it?

Love your attitude to snooty SAs too:)

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Love the mix of the neon with the blue. This looks fresh and fun - not outdated at all. I wish that I could wear neon that close to my face - it amazes me how good it looks on you, because I think of you with a much more muted color pallette!
So - distressed jeans aren't age-appropriate? Yikes! I've got a couple - one is a pair (actually I have 3 pairs of this same style (back in my obsessive days) - of Paige distressed slouchy skinnies. I've been thinking that I need to find a non-distressed pair - you've only confirmed it for me!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, Denise. This is all good info! Eventually I will find my jeans.....

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh I just adore this color combo, so fresh looking!! You and I are on the neon wavelength, I'm wearing my neon necklace today too! (But with boring black) /highfive This is a great example of adding in a few bits of trendy spice and letting them elevate a more basic outfit. Really nice!

  • replied 11 years ago

I love the touches of neon and the comfy sweater. YLF

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Neon perfection - and that is not easy!

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

So laughing about your Barney's story, I know exactly what you mean. Though you do wear distressed denim awesomely. Don't give it up, I need you to keep me apprised on all the new denim trends!

I love this outfit, and I think sweaters like that are classics. I will never get rid of mine. The neon accents are great, would love that bag myself. I had the most awesome neon pink leather tie when I was in grade 7. I still try neon pink every now and then and it is usually a disaster. I have a striped pink and nude silk blouse and it makes me look like I'm half naked with painted neon stripes. Ugh, total fail. Might need to try yellow, I digress. You look fabulous!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Neon is so amazing, and works it best magic in small doses, I think. Love the the elements here, and I think it's wise to provide a simple base outfit so the accents can shine.

I suspect I will sit this trend out. My 11 1/2 year DD has adopted neon as her "thing." I think it's a mark of her claiming her own fashion ground, and she look amazing in it (she's Chinese and her coloring is perfect for most neon shades).

This yellow was made for your coloring!

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

The scarf is such a great statement with the neon colouring, and matching bag!
    You look cosy and FAB>

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You did a fabulous job with these pieces and just the right amount of neon. I need to take notes.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Now that's the way to wear neon IMHO. This outfit looks great and the sweater may not be trendy but it certainly comprises some of your style elements and looks great.

  • jenanded replied 11 years ago

This is v cute... gotta channel your true loves... let me upset you, i agree w you... ascute as you are platinum hair would look great w neon... cyndi lauper, xray spex etc etc...and the exquisite mr bowie!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Denise, you look wonderful in this outfit and what a great way to add neon accents to your look.

  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago

Such a fresh winter - into- spring look. I wouldn't want to discourage you from.wearing even larger amounts of color, but the bits of neon with the darker gray- blue theme are just fabulous. Sharp but subtle is really appealing to me.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Just had a serious flashback! I love this on you, and girlfriend, we are not dinosaurs!

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

Love this! It's just enough neon. Definitely an echo and not matchy-matchy. Plus I love blue and yellow together neon or not. Neon just makes it more fun!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

You are a genius! That splash of neon makes this look so current! That scarf adds just the right little "extra" too. Very Well Done!

  • Bree replied 11 years ago

You have such a great syle! I love the green and blue together as well

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

I know you posted this a couple of days ago but logging into the blog site I spotted the neon scarf and bag and just had to have a closer look. The sweater may be preYLF butit still looks good with the scarf and bag being the star of the show.

I want that scarf and bag.

  • Adelfa replied 11 years ago

I love that color and my favorite pairing is with blue. You look so great. Maybe I can wear my funny green shoes with the matching purse? With navy?

  • siniestra replied 11 years ago
