WIW -- Tonal Dressing In Yellow

The tonal dressing trend is one I'm embracing this season -- I suppose because I am a matchy girl at heart.

I posted one earlier wearing greens (not the edible kind -- I'm not Lady GaGa). http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....l-of-color

Here, shades near the yellow part of the color wheel.

(New) Light colored hair calf booties (w/ little spots) from 80%20 via Ideeli.
Yellow skinny jeans from "Else" via Macy's.
SSB Sweater WilliWear via TJ Maxx, worn over a SSB cami.

I am hoping that bright yellow and SSB might just be good for each other -- the yellow makes beige sexy and the beige gives the yellow class. (Which is, actually, what Katherine Hepburn said Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire did for each other.)

What do we think?

    I like it.

Ha! So if you're aiming for sexy and classy, you've got it down pat! ;-)

Denise, I really admire your pulling off coloured pants with white or beige --- it sounds like a no-brainer, but having struggled with it in real-life, I know it can be hard to balance the look. Here, your hair bookends the pants and the volume of the top vs the skinny pants is perfectly done.

Denise I think this is actually a very clever combination. It is very casual outfit but the colors or tone on tone look is as you say very classy. This would be a very simple to dress 'up' if you ever wanted to. I like.

I would agree with Mani. Totally sexy and classy!

I love the combination and you just wear skinny jeans like nobody. Great booties - do they have a wedge or heel?

  • replied 12 years ago

I love it! That yellow makes me happy.

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

I think it looks great! :)

This works perfectly and it is amazing how the yellow of the pants ensure the beige doesn't look "dull". Adore the boots too!

    CocoLion,
This is a brilliant and very sophisticated pairing! The yellow is gorgeous but bright and the beige quiets it down and refines it in a way that white would not. Sexy and classy indeed, just like you. I love that quote and Fred and Ginger are two of my favorite stars to watch!

Love those yellow pants on you!

  • MNsara replied 12 years ago

Don't you look lovely and chic! Adore your Fred & Ginger comparison :-)

You have made the yellow pants look beautifully grown up :-)

I wish you'd given us a close-up of your booties. They sound fab!

I'd love to see you add a gold pendant or a droopy tonal scarf just to break up the SSB on top. Or maybe that's just because of my own SSB experiences!

Nice combination! You totally rock a pair of skinnies, no matter what color.

It works! Now, we need a close up of those booties!

I love the look Denise. I am also loving the tonal dressing and plan to do a yellow version and a teal version.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

VERY fashion forward Ms. Shopbop Model!

    You look great!

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

Love the yellow skinnies. My word Denise, I'd rather be able to wear these than a pair of breeches any day of the week : ) The combination of yellow and beige is so refreshing. Fab ensemble. Is winter over again?

btw, thanks for the chuckle on my "colonial" post. Lots of different things going on in the household these days : ) And to answer your question, yes, I even have a "colonial capsule" in the dark depths of my closet. LOL!

So cool! It almost reads as pastel.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I love the color combo, and the booties look fab!

I love it! I would never have thought to put SSB with yellow until I saw Kirti rocking her beige oxfords with her yellow jeans. And now you have taken it to the next, even more fab, level!

Thank you Ladies! Yes Angie I did steal this idea off a Shopbob email from last month (which I can no longer find a link to).

The shoes have wedges! I got lots of compliments on them as well as the yellow skinnies. (Doesn't happen that often.) Right now they are just "almost" comfortable as I'm still breaking them in. They have them at Amazon for $151.20, but I ordered them on Ideeli for $89 + $10 shipping, using up a credit I had.

I'm thinking of getting a second pair of laces, in a taupe or light brown color. Although the black laces do match the back protective strip (good for the shoes when driving).

I wore thin SSB socks underneath and next time I will try skin-toned ones so you can really see the window detail on the sides.

Denise, I agree with Angie, you are TOTALLY a ShopBop model. I don't think this is SSB at all. I dig the entire ensemble as is!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

This is an amazing outfit, Denise! I adore tonal looks, and seriously, this color combination is so clever and awesome.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

You are so clever! And those are amazing shoes. I love this combination for spring!

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

When you said a yellow tonal outfit, I just couldn't picture it, but I love this outfit. It looks fantastic on you.

  • fashionista replied 12 years ago

You are looking great in that yellow skinnies and nice color combo. Those booties are so gorgeous. Overall great outfit and a chic casual look.
