WIW: Vernal Equinox

Happy First Day of Spring YLF!

This is such a typically "me" outfit.  I wonder if I am in a style rut.  The jeans are new Current/Elliot "Rolled Skinny" in Bleeker wash.  The ones the Barney's SA thought were more age appropriate than the distressed kind.  O_o

I normally would not post a scowling face (2nd pic) but I decided to do so to prove a point.  It really is true what Andy Rooney said.  The cheapest plastic surgery is a smile.  I think I look a good 5 years older when I scowl.

Thanks for looking!

It's only a rut if you're tired of it!  Love this look - it's a lighter version of a favorite formula for me too.  Nothing to worry about, you are fab as ever.  Love the peek of ankle skin - if only I could do the same.  But I could stand to smile more in my pics!

not a rut--a groove.  and a lovely groove.

so true about smiling, but what if one isn't a smiley person?

You are the queen of BF's! I bow to your fabness :)  Love the lightness of this outfit. It is so springlike and pretty on you. Fab trench too and what a gorgeous back drop. LOL on the scowl and I disagree--you look pretty even when scowling!

Love this whole look. You look so great in this!

Lol! and smiling is a hell of a lot cheaper! I love your outfit, you look your usual cool self. Great soft colours and I like the layering of sirt, sweater, coat.

Ok, I am going to order those jeans, they look so fab on you! Are these your regular size?
You do the greatest casual looks, I'm totally inspired by your style. Great trench and sweater!

Smiling about your smile commentary. Smile or not you look at least 15 years younger than you are. You are gorgeous!

bj I am not naturally a smiley person.  But I have to force myself because I work in a people-intense service sector.  It used to drive me crazy when I was young, serious and shy.  Strange men would walk up to me and make the command:  SMILE.  Now I realize it was both a power and a hitting on thing as I rarely get it now.  Or maybe I have trained myself to be less serious?

Regarding the rut -- I'm not sure if I'm comfortable or hitting my limit on certain looks.  I do know that a lot of things look the same on me.  Because I size up on skinnies and size down on bf's, jeans end up looking the same on me.  I do like this fit though -- it's kind of a tailored fit.

Anyway I'm working on a thread about it.  Coming soon...

Tina you are so kind re not looking my age!  I do dream about procedures though... like Botox for my birthday?

I got these in my usual skinny jean size (27).  I could have sized down for a skinnier fit but didn't want that.  The 28s were cute on too but I was afraid they would stretch out too much.

They are very soft.  I had to roll them once more to achieve the peeking ankle but tall you wouldn't have that problem.

I like this outfit quite a bit.  The layering and soft colors look fashionable and comfortable.

Denise, I'm feeling the same but also uninspired by what's out there to strive for new looks.  It's like I just spent all this time figuring out what works for me, and now I'm bored of it?!?  Look forward to your post!

I agree, you're definitely in a groove!  Those jeans look fab and love the sweater too.  Your smile is the best accessory!

I love smiling people, but you look wonderful smirking too;-)
FWIW, I think this silhouette and style really works for you, Denise, and I love the light-coloured tops and boots in this particular outfit. Perhaps think of it as your uniform, a VERY fab uniform at that? Of course, if you are a little tired of the look yourself (I'm not), it can't hurt to explore new options.

Are there things you would like to try that are a little bit out of your comfort zone?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago
I think you're still as cute as can be when you scowl :)

KILLER outfit. You knew I would love it.

Modern Classics injected into a trendy framework with a whole lot of cool spunk. VERY Denise! (I only use the world "cool" for you because I am still off that word!) xo

This looks like you feel perfectly you in it, not like a rut at all.  Gotta love the backdrop in pic #1, too.
I think finding your groove is a good thing, and as long as you aren't bored, there is no reason to feel you have to change it up.

I love your groove!  You always look interesting and totally like you.  Love the color of the jeans here.  I may have to reconsider my affinity for dark wash jeans....
  • MsMary replied 11 years ago
You look great, smiling or scowling!  And I was going to say what bj said -- it's not a rut, it's a GROOVE!!!
  • rae replied 11 years ago
    Yes, groooovey, baby.

Ha. I used to get the SMILE command as well. It made me angry! Who goes around smiling at everything and nothing? Not to mention those guys had no way to know if there was actually cause to scowl. -_-

But anyway, you DO look extra pretty when you smile!
  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago
I am absolutely LOVING that trench on you Denise!
Smiling or not you always look fab :( :)
  • annagybe replied 11 years ago
Looks good, especially with the trench. I finally realized that I can't do serious fashion face in photographs, so I just grin like an idiot.
  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 11 years ago
Wow! You look amazing. 'Course, I always think that. But this outfit is just perfect easy elegance on you. You look great even scowling, but the photos do prove a point--thanks for that thought of the day!
  • siniestra replied 11 years ago

I love this. So you and it so suits you.

"The cheapest plastic surgery is a smile." Fantastic, must remember that one!
  • replied 11 years ago
It's not a rut, it's a signature style, and I LOVE it!  All that's missing are some huggable pets.

I've been avoiding my workout today.  Tell your dumbbell to quit glaring at me.
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Denise you are look as fabulous as ever! You look so good in these light shades (but poo on those SAs for saying distressed denim isn't age appropriate, you work those just as well as non-distressed washes!). This is a look I am really feeling for spring time: creamy sweater + bf jeans + light footwear. I am looking forward to your post, as I am having similar thoughts regarding what I saw in the stores.

(I have to also agree with Angie, you're just as cute when you scowl ^^ As a perpetually smiley/giggly person, I am constantly told to tone it down for photos, heh.)
