WIW Spring Formula

The biggest change in my dressing for S/S 2016 has been embracing slipper flats/mules.  Finally I get to wear loafers!  Normal loafers fall off my feet.  Mules do too but it is intentional and my wide feet fill out the front while I don't have to make any allowances for my super narrow heels.

My "trick" for wearing flats is keep the look as monotone as possible to create length.

I'm not going to partake in the off-the-shoulder top trend, but I love the look of all of the lace-up tops out there.   What about you, do you like lace-up tops?

Mules from Intentionally Blank (or Intentionally ___________).

Bobeau lace-up top.  Sold out, I actually like my cheap under $30 version better than this one from Equipment.  Aspirational Chloe version included for reference.

Thanks for looking. My trusty Canon Power Shot broke (so sad).  The WIW picture was taken with my phone, using the timer and propping it up against books.  That is another reason you haven't seen much of me lately.

For those who are curious, Maggie is doing much better.  She is on a permanent regime of NSAIDs for arthritis and pain meds but can take short walks again.  She's not as eager to hop in the car though.

Bonus pictures of the neighbors' goat who had a baby a few days ago!

    denise,

i adore the simplicity and tonality of this outfit.  prefer your version of the lace-up top...more interesting sleeves than the chloe version and it whispers rather than screams glastonbury.

thanks for the link to intentionally __________,  another site i have to stalk.

  • Style Fan replied 7 years ago

Denise the baby goat or kid is adorable.  Poor Maggie.  Sophie is now taking NSAIDs.  She has problems walking in the am.
I am loving the lace up tops.  Great look on you.  As always you are rocking jeans.  I like the simplicity of the outfit but the interest.

  • Sally replied 7 years ago

Those jeans are a great fit and the mules look comfortable.  They look as comfortable as my slip on sneakers which I bought for casual but end up sneaking into my work outfits.  The lace top is very nice too.

  • Runs With Scissors replied 7 years ago

Comfortable yet streamlined!  I love the hemline of the top, and how the monochrome color scheme lets you focus on shape and texture instead.  And always up for dog and baby goat pics!

  • carter replied 7 years ago

Awww! Maggie looks very comfortable in "her spot". I'm so glad she's doing better.

Love the tone on tone of the outfit. I'm not interested in off-the-shoulder looks either, but the lace up tops are super appealing. I had a pink one back in high school that I wore all the time. Loving yours!

  • dakotacheryl replied 7 years ago

great top Denise...does the lace-up qualify as Boho or Boho lite?

Mules are a match made in heaven for folks with narrow heels.

Your photo of Maggie on her pillow on the sofa is a mirror of my house.  Used to bug my mom that we had scratches on the leather from the dog toes, but, that's why I choose leather. Can clean it off, and I don't mind the marks.

And mama and kid goat - fabulous!!

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

Love this look, I'm trying on some loafers/smoking slippers myself just now! The long column of dark but with interest is really appealing.

Best to Maggie, dogs have their ailments just like we do, don't they! She looks very comfy and well-loved in that pic.

And love you "accessorizing" with mama and baby goats!. We had neighbors with baby goats last year but they moved away before spring arrived this year.

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

I am so glad to hear Maggie is doing better and the baby goat is ridiculously cute.
I love the monochromatic look on you, it is very chic and sophisticated.  I like the lace-up blouses though I am yet to try one.  It is a good balance of boho-lite and elegant and really suits you.

  • texstyle replied 7 years ago

Also glad to hear Maggie is doing better. And I like your formula for spring a lot!  I can't keep mules on at all but these look great on you and I'm glad they are working out.

    Baby goats - awwwwwww!

I do like lace up tops - since I ordered my first one, I'm seeing them all over the place.

The first one I ordered was a white french terry was SO incredibly soft I almost kept it though it didn't flatter me much at all in the cut an dolman style sleeve. I decided I just wouldn't reach for it enough to justify the price tag.

Navy is one of my all time favorite colors so the Madewell one was an easy choice and easier on the budget too.

SO much to love in this post, Denise. Your outfit is Casual Trendy Farm Fashionista Fabness - like it always is. I LOVE the top on you. Glorious. Have you tried it with your flared jeans? (Sorry your camera broke).

Great news about Maggie - precious sweetie pie. Sam sends licks, tail wags and playful down dogs. And I want a baby goat! ADORABLE.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

I love your outfit, too. Angie's alliterative moniker sounds perfect. Hope your dog feels better. I didn't know how cute baby goats were.

  • Adelfa replied 7 years ago

Oh, I missed the post about Maggie! Glad she's a little better! Lace-up tops bring back such happy memories for me. Yours looks great. And goats are my favorite!

  • AviaMariah replied 7 years ago

Your tonal outfits are always an inspiration to me. So glad Maggie is better. DH wants to add goats to our family. Luckily we don't have a ban yet so I'm holding him off. But they are adorable babies.

  • replied 7 years ago

Now I want a baby goat.

Anyways - I love a lace-up top, and oddly enough, bought that Equipment one back in ,oh,  January I think, and ended up returning it. The laces didn't stay pulled closed and every time I so much as moved my arms or body, I was completely exposed in the front. Not a good look ;)  I suppose I could have had the opening stitched closed , but I find Equipment shirts quite narrow, and that would have taken away all the ease of fit.  Saved myself $350 or whatever it was, which is ridiculous when you think about it.

I like my mules too, but they aren't a go-to, as much as I thought they would have been. Mine are a little wide on my foot and pretty gappy on the sides. Fine for quick errand running though.  I'd love to find a top like your Bobeau - I had this vision of myself being cooly French in my lace-up Equipment top and have never recovered .....;)

  • CocoLion replied 7 years ago

Thanks for all of your warm, heartfelt comments!  Maggie appreciates the attention too.  I really thought she was going, going, gone a month ago but she is recovering and I think might have some more time left.

So it looks like the lace up tops are more wearable than the off-the-shoulder types, at least on YLF.  This Bobeau top is quite the find.  The laces stay put (if anything they tighten a bit as the day goes on).  The blouse does have more weight in back which is good because I'm not flashing.  It's poly though, so a bit warm.

The mules are getting a lot of wear -- my high volume forefoot fills out the front, it's as if my feet were made for this style of shoe!

As for the baby animals, in a year we will have calves on our ranch!  We have had a handsome Black Angus bull visiting our heifers for the past month.  He is quite the seducer, never coming on too strong.  He lets the girls come to him before he does his thing.  He was picked out because his owner said "he's a really good boy."  He's good looking and not a giant bull, something to consider when making accommodations for first-time cattle moms.  ;-)

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

I really like the lace up top on you Denise... great look overall.

I also have no interest in off the shoulder - I don't even find them flattering, not to mention the bra issues.  Pass.

Glad Maggie is feeling better.  And the baby goat - well, how freaking cute :)

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

    Ooh! Baby goat!

Great outfit. I'm on the lookout for the perfect slipper mules for me. They have to be grandpa.

I also keep eyeing lace up shirts. I'm not sure I can it pull it off this well. I might slide into hoochie land...

  • replied 7 years ago

I'm another one who is absolutely uninterested in off-the-shoulder tops too.  I don't find them flattering at all.  Too many old, droopy-busty, weathered and tanned women wearing them at the beach - it's scarred me for life.

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

    Love this!

    Baby goats are the best.

  • Brooklyn replied 7 years ago

Great top. You look fab. I also won't be doing off the shoulder because of the bra issues. But I may give the cold shoulder a go.
Maggie is so sweet. I am sure you are giving her lots of love and attention. NSAIDs are very effective.
And the baby goat is a cutie pie. It's a pity that goats don't smell that great :)

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

So good to see Maggie! Hope she feels good real soon

I like your simple outfit ALOT. I THINK I saw a similar top at H&M and I'm considering it for myself too. It's like this amazing mix of boho & modern that looks casual yet classy. Easy for summers, right? It's good to see you, Denise.

  • Windchime replied 7 years ago

The shirt looks great on you! The whole outfit does, actually.

And how adorable is that little white kid? Now I, too, need a baby goat!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Your outfit and lace up blouse look perfect for you, Denise. Sophisicated Boho. My Maggie sends yours doggie greetings.
I'm always learning something new on this site. Today's lesson was how to choose a bull. Love it and think there may be some lessons there for young men too.

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

The 90's flat mule look is made for your feet and your style, Denise!  Your legs still look a mile long.

Love the top on you -- I've not tried any on.  I fear cleavage!

    Hugs to Maggie!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I love the mules, the lace up top and the little kid.

My doggie, Reed, has been going through rough times, too, with liver disease, a feeding tube in his neck and a heavy medication regime. It's been good to see some progress after a couple of very heavy months.

  • Jenava replied 7 years ago

I like lace up tops...and baby goats! I do not like sick pups....

  • Debbie replied 7 years ago

I am glad Maggie is feeling better.
    You look beautiful as always!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

This is beautiful on you, Denise. Love that shade of blue and I agree the lace up top is a fun trend to try. (Not that I've tried.). Love the simplicity of this outfit with the great mules.

Glad to hear that Maggie is holding up, and adorable goat baby!!
