WIW Backlog September 2013 and backpack update - pic heavy

For entertainment and educational purposes I am sharing some September WIWs.

1. Worn to dinner party in mid-September.
2. Wore this to work minus the heeled booties and backpack.  I returned this B Brian Atwood Juliette backpack.  Although I love, love, love the look of this I wasn't crazy about how it was constructed.  When the bag was full it put too much strain on certain parts making me think the backpack would lose its shape unless I carried an extremely light load.
3.  Settled on this Aimee Kestenberg backpack instead.  MaryK and Adelfa helped me choose between the two in a parking garage in LA!
4.  Outfit worn for lunch with MaryK, Adelfa and Rae in Burbank.
5.  Easy all white outfit worn in my sister's spotless house in LA.  There is a lot of dust on the ranch so it's harder to wear all-white.
6.  Fashion sweatshirt I'm loving, worn in late September, sandal weather might now be over.  Modeled on a skinnier day.  Skinny jeans don't hide any sins do they?
7.  Wore this to YLF meet-up.  Not happy with how this came out!  I had to get up early WITHOUT COFFEE to do some blood tests and forgot that I had previously styled this to better effect in a practice session (picture 8).  But when I got up that morning, all I could think of was to wear this with these faded black skinnies.  This Peter Som top has officially become an orphan.  I purchased it in June but didn't wear it until the meet up.  Do you have any ideas how to better style it?

Thank you!  And in advance, I apologize for the long thread but instead of starting a bunch of different threads I thought I'd do one.  I really would appreciate styling advice for the Peter Som top.

Wow, I think all of these are terrific - the all white outfit just blows me away.
The PS top looks great on you, very modern & stylish imo. How would it look with white jeans & your sandals - I notice there is a warmish colour in the top that could pull it all together? Have you tried them with the Zara tapered pants or boyfirend jeans?

  • replied 10 years ago

I love the all white too! And I like the PS top how you have styled it. I think with bf jeans might be fun.

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

All great but particularly like the new backpack and the sweatshirt in #6.

The Peter Som top is amazing.  Leather pants?  Pencil skirt? Leather pencil skirt?  Not sure if those suit your lifestyle and the skinnies look terrific with it.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Thanks Caro those are great suggestions.  Basically, try a more volume-on-volume approach with boyfriend jeans.  The Zara tapered pants are sort of in between.  I had another thought which was to try it with a slim black pencil skirt and ankle strap pumps.

Thanks for the post and the pics, I have enjoyed my read and checking out your outfits while sipping on my Chai Latte... nice way to start the day :)

#1 is lovely. I really like that blouse on you Denise. The style and the colour is just so lovely.

Your outfits are fab as always. I prefer the backpack that you chose to keep. The Peter Som top is really nice and a bit different. I like how you styled it in #8 the proportions are great. I like Caro's suggestions. I would be inclined to dress the top up rather than down. It really does seem to be asking for a crop pant:)

I kid you not, I was actually rubbing my hands together anticipating the joy I was to have looking over your WIWs, Denise! And you didn't disappoint. You look lovely in all of these and they have all the fab CocoLion trademark style.  I absolutely love the look of #4 in particular. So easy, so elegant. Just a little punch of color. Gorgeous!

I'm not likely to be much help with the PS top, which is lovely. I'm sure Angie will pop in soon and have you sorted in a sentence.  I keep wanting to see it with a lighter colored bottom like the white jeans Caro suggested. Somehow dark on dark seems to visually mute the graphic to me. I think a lighter color could bring it to the forefront.

LOL Ceit and Mia we posted at the same time!  Thanks for the solutions.

ETA - Deborah yes I agree, my attempts to dress it down in #7 didn't really work that well.  I think I was trying to match the very RATE and comfortable shoes somehow.  Who knows, I am not a morning person and I NEED COFFEE when getting ready in the a.m.

Thanks K for liking #4, I am comfortable in this not exactly oversized but more fluid fit outfit.  The Shakuhachi pants shown in this outfit are the same as in #1.  I got them last year and still love them.

Was 1 for a birthday party? I'm feeling like I remember you posting this and really liked it then too. My other favorites are 4 and 5 - wow!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Absolutely LOVE the pants in #1 and #4. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous and the dinner outfit in #1 is so stylishly elegant. Perfection.

I really love the Peter Som top as well and think Caro has made excellent suggestions. It would de-bombshell a pencil skirt beautifully, too.

As usual, your outfits give me much inspiration. So glad you posted these.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Love all of them but the coral color against your coloring is gorgeous!

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

I always enjoy seein your outfits, Denise. I really like that coral top on you and the backpack is great.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

Great outfits, Denise. I die over 1. the coral top with the slouchy pants is just so fab in every way. What fun sleeves and I love the necklace. I also really love the graphic sweatshirt outfit in 6. That's such a fun, casual look. You look so good in all of these. You have great style!

I think the top in 7 looks better with the black skinnies in 8. I would think it would be fun to pair with a black pencil too--a flowy over slim silhouette. Have you tried white bottoms? I feel like there is enough white in the print and the white collar band that white might work.

Here's the short version: You're a stunning creature Denise, who is as stylish on the inside as she is on the outside. Now that I've spent the day with you, you are even more beautiful in my eyes. You WOW me.

    Here's the long version:

I saw #7 irl and thought the outfit was absolutely Killer.

#1 is so elegantly trendy I can't stand it. I vote Killer to the power of Killer.

#6 is huggable and "extra cute Denise". How can it not have a special place in my heart.

#2 is something I would wear, and I love the crisp simplicity on you (imagining it with the new backpack).

#4 is killer trendy and suits you to a tee, Ms. Shopbop.

And #5 tickles my toes because I know how hard it is to wear white on the farm - but you got the opportunity to do so at sis's house - which is truly fab.

Hugs to you sweet lady. xo

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

These are all simply amazing, Denise. You are so disciplined.

#6 is a wow pic! You look like you have a window in you :) It's kinda cool. Very alive

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

You look inspirational in all of these - mainly in the sense that I am inspired to copy. I love #2 and #4 for the black and white, which I am very interested in right now, but really they are all amazing. I like what you did in #8 with that top.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

You look amazing in all of these. I love the coral blouse on you, and the whole dinner party outfit is super fab. Like Shevia, I'm inspired and would love to copy you--and from that standpoint, 3-4 is my favorite outfit. So chic, laid back, elegant, hip. I adore the graphic tops on you, too, the way you've worn them here, and I can envision them styled per the suggestions here, too. (I'm envisioning the sweatshirt with similar styling to the PS top, to different effects.)

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Thanks for the feast of photos, Denise.

1, 5, and 6 are my favorites, but there isn't a miss among them, of course.
As for the top in 7, what about pairing with white pants?

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

I was going to say before I read Angie's post (yeah, right :-) ) that I thought you looked wonderful in #7 that day in Santa Monica. I don't think the photo really does justice to how great you looked (maybe it's the white wall?). So if you want to switch things up that's great, but you don't need to improve on anything!

Also you don't have sins to hide!

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

I know I haven't posted on your blog posts much due to MIA-ness and lurking (hehe), but I always enjoy looking at your outfits! They all look amazing!

I'm a fan of #1: you look stunning!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You are a beautiful woman with great style that's uniquely yours. I can't pick a favorite. Each is wonderful on you.

  • replied 10 years ago

Oh wow. I'm fading fast, but wanted to tell you how great you look Denise. Every day looks like a "skinny day" for you. I love your tops in 6, 7 & 8. So modern and sophisticated. *fanning*

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

No 1 is an absolute stunner!  Love the coral and black and the fluidity of the entire outfit!

  • Asingh replied 10 years ago

    Great outfits, Coco!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

#4 is such a lovely casual version of white (shirt) under knit!
I would like to copy this one, but it is hard to find camis and Ts with nice high necklines.
Everything else is a pleasure to regard :)

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Lyn the tee is just an everyday white cotton tee from H&M with a higher neckline.  I find with layering it's all about finding the right kind of neckline.  You don't want too low or too high, just the right amount needs to peek through.  I experimented with many tees to find the right one to wear (I have several white tees).  Actually I can see the sleeves bunch up here, so a tank may have worked even better.

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

All of these are stunning.  The look for your ylf meet up was just different than the look with the same piece you thought better.  Don't think the second look is better, only different.
I'm also a lover of you in that coral blouse.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I only wish I had days and weather to dress like you.

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Denise, you have such style and variety in what you wear and may I say that you could be a stand-in for Gwyneth Paltrow in #2.

The color in #1 is gorgeous on you and then you transition beautifully into a column of white in #5, which I adore.  Love the graphic sweatshirt in #6, too, and so glad you found a backpack that makes you happy.
