WIW - October Casual

The other day I looked at my YLF blog homepage and felt disappointed by my WIWs compared to past years.  I could be simply not posting enough outfits.  Or I'm getting lazy about photos and locations.  Or I'm in a comfortable place with my style.  Maybe you can help me figure this out.  In any case I'm going to start by posting more WIWs.

1 -- The last day of Summer.  I think the date on this was October 14, our Summer drags into fall, which some would say is a quality problem.  Super simple with three neutral colors here, blue - black - brown.  And pop of coral near the face.

2 -- The gray colors would look better if I used flash.  But I love the tonal scheme and silhouettes.  I have a mixed emotional relationship with gray.

3 -- This is my new Zara tunic (waving at Debbie my tunic twin).  Here worn with Vince linen sweater which is perfect for October.

4 -- Same sweater, from behind, the front of this outfit is not worth showing.

5 -- A uniform look when I broke the dress code and wore -- gasp -- a  chambray shirt.  No one turned me in.

So I have a uniform, and then another uniform off - duty which relies on jeans + cardigan.

Thanks for looking!  Thanks for commenting, if you choose to do so!

ETA -- Added picture 4, the rear view of the cardigan.  I missed it the first time.

Denise, the simple fact is that you are gorgeous, whatever your uniform!

In all seriousness, I see no falling off of fabness. I love the pop of coral with the last of summer look; it strikes me as a very "you" touch and is also a fun tribute to warmth and herald to autumn all at once.

The next two outfits are like the soft and harder version of one another.

And your chambray shirt is lovely on you.

WIWs take a lot of effort, and yours are so artistic, they are probably even more so. Who could fault you for slacking off? I'm happy to look at these though, it's good to see your pretty face. :)

What are the BF jeans in the first picture if you don't mind? I like the look of that higher rise. Very stylish! I love your new tunic, and I'm relieved that you weren't turned in to the uniform police in your chambray. It looks neat and tidy and I'm sure did nothing to take away from your professionalism!

Love these casual outfits! You have a great uniform and I want to steal it. My fave is the chambray shirt one.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

As Suz said, you are a beautiful woman and look wonderful in a wide variety of styles. I'm feeling much like you are and not posting outfits as much. Lots are repeats or very similar stylings, but I'm also pretty comfortable with my wardrobe right now. That may change a lot for winter.
I especially like the first 2 outfits on you.

Thanks Joy, Mona, Claire and Suz!  I'm off to work (wearing black and white tonight, I feel polished in my H&M fully washable blazer!) so can't comment much.  But wanted to let you know that the boyfriend jeans are actually a slouchy skinny jean from Rag & Bone in Sheffield wash.  They are in the smaller of my typical denim sizes.  They are a great jean!!  Too bad they stopped making them.  But you could check eBay.

Well you look spectacular in all four photos.  At first glance I liked #1 & #4 best but I think it's just because they look more structured in photos.  Don't you find it's hard to photograph cardigans?  They look better when in movement IMO.  Or maybe that's just what I tell myself since I wear them so much!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I think you look wonderful in every outfit! But I completely understand, as I sometimes feel disappointed with my WIWs, and I wonder if it's for the same reasons you listed. I don't want to get too "comfortable" with my outfits, so I try to post at least a couple of times a week as I really value the feedback.

My favorite outfit here is #1 because I really like the color of the necklace. It really makes your outfit pop. I also have a mixed relationship with gray - I never know what shade looks best, if any at all. I like the edginess of #3 and the softness of the chambray in #4.

Agreeing with the others - you wear your uniform(s) so well. I love all these outfits on you. Is there a look or silhouette that is calling to you that you don't currently have?

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

It shows big time that you are at a comfortable place with your killer style. I LOVE the first photo. Such Casual Farm Fashionista Elegance.

Truly Denise, I think you haven't taken enough outfit pics to compare the years accurately. So get that cute little toosh in gear and post more photos. We want to see MORE. xo

All of these are fabulous, Denise!  You have a very polished casual style.  Another vote for more WIWs!

  • thimblelina replied 9 years ago

Yes, no one knows denim like you! Great looks.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Look one is so amazing! Casual, but so beautiful and the coral necklace is particularly great!

  • Elly replied 9 years ago

I love these looks on you-- the fits on these pieces are sublime and the silhouettes make a great statement. Very beautiful!

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

Waving to my tunic twin. Love it on you.
You look great and you look fabulous in everything! Post more outfits. You are an inspiration.

I appreciate your sense of style, so I could certainly believe you are at a comfortable place with it. But more outfit photos, more better.
I love your carefree look in #1, standing there in the breeze. I also really like the tonal grays and imagine they have more depth in real life.
What color are you supposed to be wearing for work? I can't believe you get to wear your cute jeans to work. You look so fab, professional closed clogs and all!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

May I please say .... #1 is HOT?!! It seriously is! You may be making the 20 somethings jealous ;). I love the simple yet interesting outfit. The tank is breezy enough keeping it chic and not skimpy. Love!

And your uniform is my absolute favorite. You wear button downs well :). The cardigan in #3 is fun too. Great set of outfits ... And you look as fab as ever :)

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

I don't have much to add, except maybe that I think you are far too modest. Your style is among the best there is! Of course I want to see more of it, so yes please, more WIWs.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

Thank you for the encouragement to post more WIWs.  My camera is also pooping out on me, maybe a new camera is a better choice than another pair of booties…

The comment that cardigans don't photograph well is interesting.  Most of mine are fairly oversized which also makes them more difficult to photograph.  I love that several of you like my rogue work outfit… super simple.  Tailored  and classic.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I think it's that you're too busy with your supermodel career.

Because all of these are just so fab and so inspiring to me for my casual wear needs.  What are those jeans in 1?  They are just wonderful.  And the chambray shirt with the denim is perfect.

You need to post more outfits for our sake!

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

You look fantastic Denise - I especially love #1 and your chambray uniform cheat! I have not been in the photo taking mood either - maybe I am waiting for a change of seasons.

  • Jeanie replied 9 years ago

You are my style icon for casual.  You just make casual look so cool.  You seem to be in the front of what is happening in fashion.  I need your pics so that I can see the little things like how you are just cuffing your jeans instead of rolling.

  • Sal replied 9 years ago

Just chiming in to say I love 1 and I have a coral necklace I love that I struggle to wear, this gives me food for thought..

    A great set all round!

  • replied 9 years ago

I see no falling off of style either Denise. I see outfits with style and interest. I love to be treated to your WIW's :)

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

    More jean-love from here :)

  • Jjsloane replied 9 years ago

You wear this look so well and I always enjoy seeing your outside shots. I love the softness of the greys in 2.
I haven't posted much this year at all either (will be a challenge to post my year end favorite). Still a few months to go!

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

    Thanks for the replies!!

Maybe we need a post-more-WIWs challenge.  Any ideas?

I thought some more about the gray outfit and, even though I don't photograph well in it, it has a high happiness factor.  I just love this Vince cashmere cardigan so much, and those jeans as well.  The other day I combined the same cardigan and jeans with a pale blue tee and I felt even better.  Maybe that's all I need to perk up the dullness of gray.

  • replied 9 years ago

Denise. After my mini project last week I think I need to post more wiw's too. We should join forces!

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I have some ideas Diane.  We could have a one week challenge in which one or two outfits are real-real, everyday.  Another part of the week could be focused on photography -- ranging from changing your pose to finding an interesting location.  And a final part could be inspiration, whether from an Angie ensemble, another YLFer's outfit, or from Pinterest.

Or, just plain and simple make it a challenge to post ONE outfit for the week, that's it!  Just call it a Post More WIWs challenge, with rules if you want some structure, or no rules if you don't.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Oh my,  total casual fabness. I should look so good on my best days. Keep doing whatever it is you are doing.

  • replied 9 years ago

Ooh, I like your thinking Denise! Both ideas sound good. We could come up with a final plan. I'll pm tomorrow if you fancy a whirl! I'd have to make it next week or the week after as it's school holiday this week and my time is not my own! I'll be in touch :)

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

The post more WIW challenge sounds just like the ticket! It seems that taking daily photos makes us put a little extra effort into our outfits! I'd be game.

I lost my camera after our move and have resorted to my phone which doesn't do the best job IMO. I tore apart every closet and nook and cranny looking for my camera and have given up!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

i.love.your.WIWs. period. Always. Your style is very inspirational to me.

Great challenge idea. I'd be in for that.

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

I need a push so I would be in for the challenge.

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

And I love you in gray.
