WIW - Cropped and Rolled

I am with Angie, I still don't think cropped pants are very flattering but they do feel modern.  Plus, you can show your footwear which right now is all about highlighting the ankle.  Does it work, did I get the length right?

1/2 -- Frumpy chic look featuring maternity type top -- Feel the Piece; Rolled chinos - Zara; and Sandals -- Splendid.

3/4 -- From my Mother's weekend birthday celebration in San Francisco, kind of what you'd expect from me.  I did dress up one night but don't have the pictures from that event yet.

5 -- This is my third snake sighting in one week.  First two, an adult gopher snake.  Third:  a baby rattlesnake, right next to the car park.  He was completely freaked out and went into strike pose, but I backed off.  Do my multiple snake sightings mean something?

Oh my gosh that snake looks terrifying! Not good with symbolism though so I can't comment to the meaning.

I don't think the first outfit is frumpy at all. I love it and the shoes totally make it a la Anna's recent epiphany. The second and third outfit I could just lift right off you and wear myself. I think the way you are doing the cuffing is very flattering, and I am paying close attention now that I have jumped off the cuffing cliff. I thought I couldn't do it myself because my legs are just so short. Actually the whole round here is very inspirational for me.

Those sandals are fab & your dogs look like fun - I love the colour combination of the sandals & dogs.

I don't think you look frumpy at all, you look very relaxed & modern.

The snake is a symbol of healing & life force in many cultures:)

I like the rolled effect Denise, and these pant have an interesting seam that looks neat with the sandals.
Do your dogs ever catch/chase the snakes?
In Australia we have some of the most poisonous in the world, and when I was a child we used to see Brown snakes and Copper-Head snakes where we camped every Summer!

Those sandals are so cute and no you don't look frumpy at all in #1. #3 is my favourite. Rolled jeans are just the right length. I am so scared of snakes.

I like the colours in #1 and I think your sandals are fab!. Love the cool  black jacket look in 3 and lovely neutrals in 4. I like the length of your jeans in 4 too, it shows off your booties so well.

I think your snake sightings mean that it's spring! The snakes are awake and want some sun for warmth.
I have questions about rolling and pant length too so will watch this thread. For summer I'll probably roll to clam length or just slightly longer. Yours don't look frumpy to me.

  • MNsara replied 10 years ago
Had to log in to say how nicely you do the rolled legs! I'm also taking notes here to apply to some Gap broken in khakis I'm considering :-)

    Great Splendid sandals BTW!

Snakes? Symbolically, I have no idea, but practically it might mean extra dry (or extra damp?)?
  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

I really like outfit #1- it's chic, not frumpy, IMO. Those sandals are very cool, and elevate the whole outfit. #3 is classic rocker Denise- you wear it so well.
I like the all-pale tones of #4, too, and I'm in awe of your bravery to get close enough to photograph the snake!
I'm eager to see the rest of your San Francisco outfits!

I love the cropped cuffed pants- all of these looks are very modern and very you!
    Those shoes are fantastic!
Black jacket, T and jeans- perfection!!

Oh my goodness Denise, you are looking so stylish in the crops and ankle-baring styles. I love those sandals! You managed to have the perfect black leather jacket, perfect white shirt and perfect jeans along with just the right belt and boots for Mom's celebration. Any one can "attempt" this, but you have achieved perfection here. WOW.

As for snakey, I'm thinking he would make a mighty fine pair of pumps. :)

Love the first outfit and your fur accessories :) I don't find anything about it frumpy to be honest. I like the length of the rolled crops and the color and drape of the top. The sandals are GORGEOUS!

Of course you look rocker chic in your outfit in #3.

What's with the excess snakes? That would be kind of freaking me out.

I'd been hoping you'd post some pics of what you wore on your trip for your mother's birthday. I was wondering what you chose!

I love those sandals in #1 and #2. They are gorgeous and well worth highlighting. To me, this looks like a fabulous (and comfortable) outfit that would be perfect for my own work-at-home days. If I could get the lengths right, that is. I think you do.

I also admire the way you get your Cameron cuffs "just so" and so neat! For me, this is a struggle, so I'm still debating having about an inch or two lopped off. I could still wear them cuffed, but they would work a bit better at full length and the cuffs wouldn't be so thick. Mine are a bit "crunchy" because of the denim wash and don't roll so well to three -- it can be done, it just doesn't look as neat as yours always look.

That snake is something else -- but wow, it looks as if you are colour coordinated with him! And even if you didn't intend that (and I know you didn't) it would be fun to come up with a tonal outfit that echoed his beautiful pattern and colours.

Slytherin! You must be cunning and ambitious :) Love the ankle pants and the sandals. They are very flattering in my opinion. Love your black leather jacket outfit too! Looking good as always, Denise!
  • sarah replied 10 years ago
WOW - watch out for those snakes. Yikes.

I think #1 is defrumpified by the fact that the shoes are low-contrast with your skin and there is a lot of taper. You look more chic that frumpy, that's for sure. And your weekend outfits are classic Denise- awesome.

Drooling over your sandals.  I love outfits #1 and #4.
  • texstyle replied 10 years ago
Love those sandals and the way you are wearing them with the crops. Are they as comfortable as they look?  I'm getting more used to rolling up my pants too and am wearing a rolled/cropped pair of slim jeans for the first time in a long while today.

In spring the snakes are def. trying to come out to get warm and to eat. We see them on the roads quite often. Rattlers mostly.  The younger ones are said to be more dangerous (more likely to strike) so be careful!
  • Angie replied 10 years ago
Snakes!!! How do you and your stunning fur babies cope? My hat off to you. I am SUCH a city girl. I'd have had multiple apoplexies long ago.

Denise, you look beautiful in all these outfits. I like the way you wore these cropped pants with the sandals! They are very tapered - which helps a lot - and the criss-cross ankle strap detail of the sandals is divine. Could you provide a link to the the sandals perhaps? It's all an elegantly casual combination somehow. Well done.

And outfit #3 is usual KILLER Denise style :)

Outfit #4 is fab in every way.

Hope to see the event pics soon!

Can't take my eyes off #3. White top, jeans, leather jacket - classic on the one hand, yet you look edgy - and comfortable in your edge. You own that look!
  • MsMary replied 10 years ago
Wow, I love the sandals in the first outfit!!  In fact, I love all those outfits!!

Mr. Snake has a great outfit but I find him pretty unapproachable!  ;)
  • Thistle replied 10 years ago
I see NO frump anywhere.  #1 looks relaxed and modern to me. Those sandals are amazing!!  #3 is so you, and I love the softness and drape of #4.  All fabulous!

As for snakes, their symbolism is very old, and predates Christianity by quite a bit. Some of the more common symbolism are: fertility, nature and rebirth, as guardians, and medicine.

Thank you for all of the responses!  So yes, it *is* Spring, that would explain the snakes.  It is suddenly quite warm as well, and the grasses are tall.  Yesterday the grass was cut a bit around the house, and I think the sound of the weed whacker drove the young rattler onto the pavement.  He was *so* frightened.  It is really hard for me to kill snakes.  They have to be rattlers and in some place like the garage where there are dog crates and our dogs sleep at night (they are allowed freely inside but they are too restless at night in the house).  The snakes do help with our abundant rodent population, right?

I am also seeing lots of jack rabbits this Spring, but haven't seen the foxes in while.

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago
It IS the Year of the Snake, so this is quite appropriate!  :)

I think you are spot on with the cropped length and the shoe/sandal choice.

Love those cute sandals and, of course, your on-the-road SF outfit!  Is that an EF top in 4?
  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago
I admire how you make the simplest elements look so cool. How do you do it? The sandals with the rolled pants are so fab, and the loose top adds elegance, not frump. I also love seeing you in your signature style rocker chic in #3. I'm fortunate enough to live in a climate too chilly for snakes and most worms, so I'm afraid I'm of no help there.
  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Amazingly simple polished rockin' looks! I esp like the top in #1 and the #3 with the perfect jeans and black jacket. I'm taking notes on how to wear this loose top profile since you have obviously got it down perfectly!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

No frump in #1 at all, it looks comfortable and modern just as you say. And those sandals - wow!! Love #3 - so polished, those jeans are perfection. And the snakes, eeew.

  • replied 10 years ago

I eliminated my issue with cropped pants and I am with you on how you can show off your shoes. I think #1 is amazing, so are #3 and #4.

  • replied 10 years ago

You look great in all of these!
