WIW - Committing to Sporty Luxe

1 -- I wore this to take my Mom to cataract surgery.  Yes that qualifies as an occasion to make some effort with my appearance.  ;-)

2/3 -- Today, no special occasion other than nice Spring weather.  Open knit sweater from Vince via eBay.  #3 shows the sweater semi-tucked but I prefer it untucked.  Note the location of this photo -- it used to look completely different (see picture 4).

4 -- Picture from 2013, this shows the same location as #3 before numerous trees came down, due to a combination of draught as well as bark beetle infestations.  I'm quite sad about it, as it was also a favorite  place where CocoLion, RIP, would join me in a photo shoot.

Rather than giving detailed clothing descriptions, I'm trying to provide everything as a find.  It was fun trying out the new custom finds feature.

The Steve Madden Buhba slip ons are not quite as comfy as the Van's, but they are close.  They're also newer and I'm still breaking them in.  I do recommend them.

Thanks for looking and commenting, dear friends!

As always, you look stunning. Love outfit 1. And of course, the woofs!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Looking great Denise! Totally love the first outfit especially (I recognize that shirt :D ). Been eying those white Vans, nice to know they're comfy. Your casual cool looks are inspiring as always ^^

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Denise you look fantastic in the first outfit. The next one is a bit melancholy because of the absence of trees and friend. The outfit is super though. I like you in white and those jeans are smashing.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Thanks Jen, Aida and Shevia!  I just realized the Steve Maddens are completely invisible due to the tall grass.  Here's another recent outfit, that I did not deem thread-worthy.  Also I didn't like my surly expression nor this color combination, but you do get a good view of the sneakers.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Denise I love that shirt!  I am crazy for oversized white shirts at the moment (despite not owning any ... yet). And I think any time I leave the house is an opportunity to dress lol... even a doctors appt.

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

I love the outfits my shirt twin. You always look terrific. We have spots here that have changed due to the drought. It is sad.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous!  Have you seen this?  I just tried it in BR and it runs big but Is ADORABLE.  Much better than this grumpy model shows it.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Deborah I saw quite a few oversized white shirts at H&M, since you're on the lookout.

Debbie my shirt twin!  Always a pleasure to hear from you.  I forget that it's not just California having a drought.

Thanks AG that is a super vest -- I love that it's cropped.

Your outfits are awesome. I like your sporty luxe style! That's sad about the photo spot and doubly sad about the loss of your BCF (C being for canine).
Hope your mother's surgery went/goes well!

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

These are great outfits!  I love the necklace in #1 with the oversized shirt.  The sweater in #2 is unusual and I like it untucked the best.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

I also love #1 on you - great shirt and the way you've styled it is perfect. The sweater is really nice too - I think untucked may be best. And that color on you in the last pic with your beautiful pups is also great. Sorry to hear about the tree loss, I know that can be really hard. Hoping for rain to come your way very soon.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

You look killer stunning in Sporty Luxe, Denise. It REALLY suits you and your lifestyle. #1 is SENSATIONAL.

But #4 still has my heart (although it's an old photo).

Good luck with Mum's cataract surgery.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Sporty deluxe was created for you! Love these two looks, I see your love for  bl&w resurfacing and getting more and more action:-)). I do qvasi have all elements for the nr 1, thanx for inspiration!

Just too bad I cannot use the finds/custom finds feature at all:-( as I am overseas, and don't even have an apple....

Also, I'm so sorry for Cocolion, I have just found out about your sadness....:this is always hard.

  • Ledonna N. replied 8 years ago

You do sporty lux very well.  I love the top in the 2nd pic.

  • Kirstjen replied 8 years ago

You look fab.  Thanks for sharing a pic of the pups.  :)

  • crutcher replied 8 years ago

I am bobbing my head like a Bobble doll in agreement with Deborah...that any time I leave the house is an excuse to dress...laughing, too...The outfit #1 is just so chic...I love the oversized white shirt...I like the others as well but 1 makes my heart sing...did your heart sing when you wore it?...

  • tulle replied 8 years ago

You look wonderful, CocoLion, and the necklace of orange points takes look #1 from very nice to truly fab.  One question:  are those thick-soled sneaks comfortable, with a bit of flex, or fairly stiff?  I love the way they look, but am always looking for flexible shoes.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Firecracker and Angie -- thanks for asking about my Mom's cataract surgery.  She had both eyes done, and said she is starting to see better!

Tex -- we had to take out 4 trees in this area, there is less shade and more noise from the highway now.  Trees give us so much!!

lyn67 -- CocoLion died last July, I still think about her every day.

Crutcher -- your comments always bring a smile to my face.

Kristjen, Ledonna, Sara -- thanks for stopping in to comment on my WIW, I appreciate it so much.

Tulle -- the Vans are flexible.  The Steve Maddens, less so due to the flat-form.  I consider both of them comfortable, easy shoes.  The only negative has been that these are my first sockless shoes of the year, so I've been putting moleskin on my heels.  So there is a breaking in period with these slip-ons if you wear them without socks.

  • celia replied 8 years ago

I am always sad when trees fall or are taken down.
I love both your looks but especially #2.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

Denise, you are inspiring me to wear my white tunic blouses, they look so chic! I love your stunning two tone top...in or out...it doesn't matter, it looks fantastic! It is shocking when trees come down..it can leave a spot looking so barren ..although one upside is all the extra light...we have so many trees in our tiny backyard I wouldn't mind if one or two bit the dust...it would give me a little light in the house!

I love your sweet photo with your special fur babies:)

  • Tanya replied 8 years ago

Wow Denise, you look incredible in all of them, and #1 in that white oversize shirt is superb.  I really like the outdoor shots and #4 is so sweet.  Hope your mom's surgery went well.

  • annagybe replied 8 years ago

You look WAY better than I did for my Dad's cataract surgery. His case was the first of the day. I didn't even wear make-up.
    It is a great look.
Also bark beetles are the worst.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

Lovely pics.  The white really suits you as does the volume on top.

The drought must be such a challenge in California, I do hope there is some respite soon.  As you say trees give us so much and it is terrible when they cannot survive the conditions.

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Denise, love the big white shirt...of course that's what I wore today so it's obviously something I'm drawn to.  The jeans fit you so fantastically !!
Photos with our dogs are always near and dear to my heart. I just ordered a custom calendar/planner, and the front and back covers are photos of two of my dear and sadly departed dogs.

Loved your expression in the last photo you posted...definitely a "don't mess with me" face.

We also have the pine beetle infestation here in the Black Hills. We spray our trees every spring with pesticide, and had to cut down about 25 of them the first year. My DH bought the spray solution a couple of weeks ago to the tune of over $500. Will probably need to buy more. He's already talking about needing a bigger sprayer as the one we have now ($1500) isn't big enough to spray when it's breezy, which is almost every day here.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

25 TREES?  Wow, I have nothing to complain about Dakotacheryl!

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

25 sounds like a lot but we're on 6 acres that is mostly covered in pine trees. That used to be a good thing...sigh...

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I love both of your outfits.  You always look so Fab.  Your jeans are so amazing.  I love that necklace.  It sets the outfit off so well.  Orange is such a great colour.

So sad about your beloved Cocolion.

  • Deb replied 8 years ago

Sporty lux suits you very much. They are all great looks.....though #1 steals the show....simple yet beautiful. I've always had a soft spot for a nice white shirt and premium jeans....I sense you may feel the same.
Such a shame about the trees and really hope the drought breaks soon. We are not at all immune to the tragedy of drought here in Australia.
It must have been hard losing your CocoLion.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous Denise.  And I think I know what I'm going to wear tomorrow :)

  • replied 8 years ago

Wow, you look fab in Sporty Luxe Denise!

  • abc replied 8 years ago

Wow I really love number 1. Goes to prove you don't need catchy splashy prints or color to look well put together and fab. That shirt is really great. Love how you wore it w open ankles and the slip on shoes. So pretty and chic.

    Sorry about the trees :(

  • Vicki replied 8 years ago

Oh my, you look glorious with and without the trees and, always, with your furry ones.  If this is Sporty Luxe, then I want to play, too.  The white shirt is gorgeous on you and I really like the colored necklace you chose.  Heads were turning, I'm sure, at the hospital and I hope your mother is mending well.

I think Vince clothing was made for you.  Tucked or untucked, this material works.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 8 years ago

This is incredible. I have been looking for a perfect white shirt to do just this type of look. I am inspired to keep looking!

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

Wow, big difference in landscape. You look great in sporty luxe :) I have hearted all your Finds :)

  • Michelle replied 8 years ago

Denise, could I beg pretty please for an outfit description? I'm newly and surprisingly enamoured of sporty luxe trends myself and am always keen to hear how other people are interpreting this look, which I find oddly fascinating and flexible in my own life.
