WIW - Bra Fit Study Plus the Results of My Latest Coin Flip

I try to pull together at least one WIW a week.  Just so I don't get too lazy!  Even though my outfits start to look a lot alike.

Picture 1 -- WIW today, it was windy in the low 60s.
Picture 2 -- My first try.  It is so hard for me to get out of my slouchy cardis.  But I realized, slouchy tee needs a more structured topper so I opted for this unlined leather jacket I got last year from BB Dakota (shown in #1).  The other thing I changed was my bra!  Picture 2 shows me in an old, ill-fitting Vanity Fair bra.  Dare I say it creates a frumpier, definitely larger silhouette than the bra I'm wearing in picture #1.
Picture 3 -- As in #1, the new Simone Perele is worn here.
Picture 4/5 -- When I am uncertain about something, I will flip a coin and then live with the decision.  Coin flip said to keep this Alexander McQueen razor bracelet.  It may not fit right, but my boyfriend thought it looked evil and he liked that.  Now I've scratched it so I guess it'll be part of my accessories collection.

Thanks for looking!  Have you experienced the effect of a better-fitting bra?

Love #1 with the jacket! But I also like the comfy look of #2. And it IS instructive what a difference your good bra makes in the total look!

Yesterday I went to put on something over a particular bra--one that fits well but isn't a push-up style--and I realized I needed more lift, as the top I had on was more fitted. With a looser fitting top or more layers on top, I feel I can wear the less-enhancing bras. Or maybe I'm fooling myself! Hmm.

I spend a large chunk of money on underwear because I think it is totally worth it  - I'm a DD cup.

I love the jacket - the cardi is great but the jacket is just fab (then you know how much I like jackets).

I agree, bra fit is important! I just bought a whole new set of nursing bras because my size has changed now that I'm nursing again.

You look great in #1, and love the metallic cuff.

The 'girls' definitely look perkier in #2! I agree that the leather jacket is a good choice as it adds a bit of structure. You look great and the bracelet is unusual, but in a good way, fab! As for bras I agree about fit, at the moment I'm not happy with mine as I think the underwire is coming too far around my side and the cut of the cups makes my boobs point out towards each arm as opposed to forwards; I really need to throw a bit of money at some new ones.

Hi Denise, I love the slouchy Tee, it looks smooth and flowy like your hair.
The same top with jacket and cardigan is a great example of how a more structured topper dresses-up a casual outfit beautifully!
Even a well fitting bra looses volume and stretch after a while- I read that we should buy new ones after only 3 months.

I love both versions, and both toppers. Bra looks good, and so does bracelet!

Your outfits are casual but chic, and your bras are looking good!  I need to try out these Simone Perele's I think....30D is hard to find.
  • Jaime replied 11 years ago
I understand perfectly what you mean about structure both over and under slouchy tees. I love the outfit with the jacket and also without any topper and think the coin made a great choice with the bracelet.
  • Suz replied 11 years ago
I love the jacket with the slouchy tee, Denise, and I also love this pale tonal neutral outfit on you. Even in cooler temps, it reads like spring. (Although to me, temps in the 60s would feel positively balmy about now...sigh...)

    Love your fun bracelet, too!

As for bra fit, you said it. And it seems a well fitting bra can be like the holy grail to find. It sounds as if you like your Simone Perele. I got one, too, and I am enjoying it so far. Very comfortable.

I adore 1, and while it is quite different than 2, I like it as well. So interesting to learn about the details and structure of an outfit and how that changes the feeling. Great new cuff, love it with your skin tone. And I may use the coin toss technique, so fun and love the element of fate and chance involved.
  • Janet replied 11 years ago

You look great! I love the cuff too.

No doubt that a better bra helps me tremendously. It's not easy to find cute AND supportive bras in a 32DDD or E, but I now have a decent selection including some lace, some tee-shirt style, and of course the ever-important sports bras. With my large boobage and short waist, it's really important to keep the girls where they belong to give my waist a little extra length and definition.

Oh my goodness - I love pic #1 Denise! These soft tonal outfits are just a dream on you. And the bracelet is fab - wear it and enjoy.

I need to go get fitted for a new bra - now that my shape is starting to change, the ones I'm wearing just aren't working for me anymore. A good bra giving excellent support and shape makes any top and jacket fit better IMO. Worth every penny. Besides at our age, we want "the girls" to look perky right? - lol!

I love 1 but I also really like 2. You look great in both toppers--just different vibes. You look great in this almost white out look--so spring! The difference a bra makes is pretty noticeable. Do you "save" your good bras for special occasions or are they part of your everyday wear? My bras need replacing in a big way. I hate bra shopping though--I'm an A with a wide back and have a hard time finding ones that fit properly. Ugh. Love your new cuff.
  • sarah replied 11 years ago
I like both of the looks - slightly more structured jacket and less structured cardi. I'm really digging your white-out looks these days. Congrats on a new bra. I just got a new bra that is much "perkier", too - a sign of aging for me, I guess.

I love you in these pale colors, Denise.  And hooray for a great bra!  New bracelet is way cool.
  • jenanded replied 11 years ago
Just cool all round ... I do love the jacket in 1 (coveting thoughts)... Razor bracelet is so YOU and looks fab.
WE need a discussion about this 3mth bra thing...
  • rae replied 11 years ago
I love what you've done here - and what better way to appreciate a new bra than with photographic evidence of its awesomeness? Love the white jacket as well as the razor bracelet - looks dark in a shiny way. Cool!
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
I'm fainting at #1. SO NOW and WOW!! My favourite colour palette for the season is white on white. Thanks for the morning treat!

#2 looks very casual, but still fab. You're on a farm afterall.

The girls look splendid in the new bra. (That's the only bra brand I wear, btw).

And flipping a coin is certainly one way to make a decision :)

The jacket makes a huge difference! In seriously envy and awe over the bracelet. So flipping cool.
  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You look especially fab in #1. What a difference a good bra and a jacket can make. I want to try that brand of bra. Last time I ordered a different style (on sale) and it didn't work. Angie's style often isn't available in my size. Your post is a reminder to try again.

Seriously gorgeous, Denise! I love pic #1. Love it! Pic 2 is gorgeous and relaxed. The bracelet? I totally want one.  Reading the description, I thought it would be a really "tough" looking piece. It isn't though. It is beautiful, with a hint of teasing toughness. Perfect.

As for the bras, oh yes. Yes, it is amazing what a bra can do for a shape and it is amazing how it changes your shape between 1 and 2. And I certainly agree that a bra can make a huge difference. I've worn well fitting ones since I was in my early 30s. I had a brief break while nursing, but after returning to work for a month or so, I bought myself a couple of very nice Le Mystere "Hot Momma" nursing bras. What a difference. They were lovely. More significantly, when I started wearing them, two of my friends asked me if I had switched because the'd noticed things were looking *ahem* lifted and lovely. So yes, I am a huge believer in the power of a bra to create the right shape.

Love the coin flip decision. The more fitted jacket certainly looks dressier but I  think the cardi looks good too.
  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

I love how the leather jacket adds structure, and I agree that cardis are hard to get out of! The bracelet is very cool, and I think flipping coins is a great solution to avoid time consuming doubts. I need to learn this, too. Great outfit, Denise!

A good fitting bra makes a huge difference, and I spend a reasonable amount on underwear that fits.
