WIW -- Tuxedo Pants (not jeans)

Hello, it's been a while since I've posted a WIW or spent much time posting. A situation that needs fixing! Here goes.

Tuxedo pants -- Shakuhachi via Urban Outfitters (they are now cheaper than when I bought them, grrrrrr). But still highly recommended. I feel they are style shifters, in a good way. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com.....CH+RESULTS
Striped top -- Soft Joie via Shopbop
Western-style bootie -- Vintage Shoe Co. via Nordstrom
Leather Jacket -- Zara
Colorblocked Clutch -- Nicoli (Made in Italy) which is my latest TJ score. It's buttery soft and I love it! Are you a "Maxxinista" too?!?

Thoughts/comments? Do you think I look too washed out here, do I need to infuse more color into this outfit? Thank you!

I just want to know how you manage to find such fab items - I LOVE THEM and you look so great in them! I'd like to see some color around your face, but it could just be the lighting outdoors.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Una this was taken at our hotel on the beach in Monterrey right before Thanksgiving and it was quite foggy. I could try this with a brighter top maybe, or of course go the scarf route but a scarf so changes the vibe of the outfit.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Super cool! Almost 80s, but modern as well. I wondered the same about the lighting. But I kinda dig the washed out look here - makes you look all ethereal and model-y. :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I think you look amazing, those pants are perfect.
I understand not wanting to look washed out. How did you feel at the end of the day, that's always the test for me?

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Caro that's an interesting way of looking at it. I felt fine at the end of the day. The pants are super comfortable. I think Shakuhachi is an Australian line, have you heard of them?

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I always feel as though I look tired at the end of the day if I'm wearing too much black or colour that doesn't work for me. So if you felt fine I'd say keep going, you certainly look good.

I have heard of Shakuhachi they make some interesting clothes & shoes. They had some nice drapey jackets but I've managed to stay strong. I'm still working out where my style is going & want to save my money for winter.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Oh I really like this outfit. The pants with the striped top and edgy jacket is perfect. This is definitely my kind of outfit.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You look absolutely amazing in this! Love it with and without the jacket. Can't say about your looking washed out, but you are standing against a pale background, which might be confusing things. I think you look terrific!

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

You have such fantastic style (see my comment on Una/Mochi's thread). These pants are great as it the the whole look.

It's interesting how my perception of the outfit changed the more I looked at it:
Striped top with those bottoms... not sure, feels a bit sporty... wait a minute, that is one very clever striped top, not bumble-bee-ish at all, not a trace of sporty... how clever it was paired with those pants... well, of course... and the jacket frames it to perfection and the clutch is a cherry on top. Thanks for educating me once more and please stop this WIW draught....

Initially, I personally would have preferred a bit more color in the whole outfit, but that's just *me*, you look great as it is. Btw, great thing you asked this question, because Caro's Criteria of how you felt at the end of the day is a brilliant one to 'measure' the success of the outfit.

  • missvee replied 11 years ago

Beautiful silhouette on you. Love the bag and jacket. I think it would be fun to try it with a more colourful top too, but this looks good just the way it is.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Those pants are fantastic!! Now I want to go try them on, too...they look super comfortable as well...

As to the washed-out question, I think Caro's response was brilliant, and will let you be your own best guide. This outfit is so fab I can understand why you wouldn't want to adulterate it with a scarf. Maybe you can save it for days when you are feeling very well rested.

And keep up the search for a moto in a new colour!!

  • replied 11 years ago

Love the waist on those pants! I think a bit of colour would be good here, but on the other hand I kind of like the interplay of black and white on its own.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I love the simplicity of the black and white colour scheme here and I don't mind the lack of any other colour. Those pants are fabulous on you and the clutch....well, LOVE IT!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

#3 is KILLER to the power of KILLER. That means the very best on YLF. Loving the lower heels, and no you don't look washed out.

    WOW!!!

Please excuse me while I recover from your insatiable fabness and faint.

    *faints*

  • shedev replied 11 years ago

I love the way you styled these. That moto is awesome.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

So hip, so urbane - totally cool! Love this on you Denise.

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

I think you look amazing in this! I always struggle with my inner voice telling me that monochromatic or black/white outfits are boring when I wear them, but that voice is wrong. Those crisp looks always get lots of love from the YLF forum and when you see someone else wearing them you can see why. So stifle that silly little voice and revel in the gorgeous gloriousness of this outfit. You look amazing in it. And I can't believe how much more fantastic you look in those pants than the model. They are way more flattering on you and your styling of them is so much more interesting than UO. So, no surprises here, you rock, Denise, as you always do!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Angie -- 1000 thanks for the K Power blessing!!!

K Can Shop -- Have I told you how much I love your forum name? Coco can shop too! Thanks for your comment. I have noticed that the tuxedo style can look good on hourglasses, because the vertical lines not only slim but also follow the curves that I'm usually trying to hide, in a good way.

Runner Rae, Shevia, Ornella, MissVee, Suz, Ceit, Shannon, SheDev and Merwoman -- Thank you! I agree the outfit could benefit from more color. I am on the hunt for two colorful accessories: a bright clutch and a colorful necklace. Hopefully both in a fantastic shade of red or cobalt blue.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Denise I want to be you! Would these go with glitter booties? Lol.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Love this, Denise. You have to be the most stylish person for miles around!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Alright! I have a striped pants twin! Although mine are jeans and yours look wonderfully slouchy. Those pants remind me of something I would have worn in the 80s but in a good way. I would love to think I could rock them again, but I'm really afraid of looking "big." I'm about 15 lbs bigger than I was back then.

But this whole outfit is great. I love it and don't think you need to add color if you don't want to. Sometimes I really like keeping a simple graphic b&w palette, and not every outfit needs a pop of color.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Janet, high five tuxedo stripe twin! I have two Rag & Bone jeans with tux stripes and these. Love the trend. I might even be over-participating in this trend.

I'm on the fence if I want to keep these, due to challenging color.
    These are so wearable: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....xedo-jeans

RachyLou -- now I want a pair of 70% off glitter booties too!

    Kellygirl -- thanks!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Those tuxedo pants are fab and I love how you put the whole look together. Mah-velous!

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

Denise, these trousers are pure perfection on you!!

  • RoseandJoan replied 11 years ago

Those trousers are so flattering Denise. I really love the softness of the drape on your lower half...almost like a more wearable version of your Missoni Trousers.

I also think the proportions with the top and lower and heels are spot on.

  • replied 11 years ago

Simply stunning! I've missed you too, and second all of the things that have been said about that outfit. Are you going to taunt us with that tiny glimpse of the fabulous clutch or can we have a close-up?!!! And what are these "style-shifters" of which you speak? Perhaps you could write a post on that. :)

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Wow Denise - I think this outfit is absolutely perfect - no washing out - just cool to the "nth" degree. This sooooo fits your style! I want to see a close-up of the shoes and clutch!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

These pants are stunning! I don't think you look washed out at all, in fact pieces have enough interest that no additional color is needed. Color would change the whole vibe of this outfit IMHO.
