WIW -- Trendy Leopard Top from Zara

When Angie blogged about this type of top, I just had to have one. http://youlookfab.com/2012/11/.....t-fashion/

I like that it's like a tee or sweatshirt, but different. Here I've styled it casually. I'm trying to be on trend, but not over the top trendy. I have decided I don't want to look head to toe trendy, just *mostly* trendy.

So -- the booties are pre YLF and not especially trendy. My hair is not trendy. The bf jeans, while trendy, are rolled to my own un-trendy longer length, not the higher length.

Or am I fooling myself? Does anyone else feel like this? I used to incorporate more vintage items as a sure-fire way not to be head-to-toe trendy.

Denise that is a great top. I am really liking the dressy sweatshirt look. I appreciate your comment about not wanting to be head to toe trendy. I feel similar. I recognize that it is important to me to look current, and incorporating trends can help achieve that, but I still want to exhibit my personality and my "take" on a trend. The fact that you have chosen not to conform 100% to "the look" (length of the rolled pants, hair and boots) is what individualizes the look and has you wearing it, rather than it wearing you, and I think you look great.

I think this looks fantastic on you. I like that you have taken a look and made it your own, to me that is what true fashion is all about!

i think you have it nailed...you look current and on trend, but you're owning the look, instead of the look owning you!

I agree with you on the trends. I look at a trendy item and then say ok how can this work for me given my age and lifestyle. So an oversized sweater gets paired with a simple pencil skirt, a glittery top goes under a classic jacket. Then I feel it's me.
This is a great look on you - I love the colours and the silhouette, and the little pop of neon is a great finishing touch.

I think you have succeeded as well. I think it is just the right amount of trend!

I think I understand what you mean. But the worry is just diving into trends pell-mell without considering whether they work for you or you even like them. You don't look like that at all and I cannot think of a single time you ever did. Incorporating trends into your own style is very different than just slapping them on. In short, I think you look great.

I'm 100% agreed with you about incorporating a few trendy items into my wardrobe and outfit, but staying away from head to toe trendy. I might be fooling myself too, but that makes me feel that I'm being deliberate and intentional about my style, and that I'm neither out of touch/ date nor a lemming.

I love the look that you have put together here - the casual vibe is perfect, especially given the setting for the picture. The sweatshirt trend really works here, IMO, sitting right at the intersection between the casual and the dressy, and it pulls this look together so beautifully. You look wonderful!

Fun and fab, Denise. Rather than trendy/not-trendy, I see this outfit as a good example of the use of star players vs. supporting actors -- or, as In baroque music, the continuo instruments (harpsichord, bass and cello) provide the "ground" for the solo violins or voice to shine.

Anyway, you have an outfit that makes a strong statements, but is also quite harmonious and easy!

All I want to say is this looks like a fab, fun, comfy outfit that I've love to copy.

That neon belt is a great idea with the 'dressier sweatshirt/T-shirt' --- prevents it being too precious or trendy though a current look, because it seems sort of colourfully tongue-in-cheek!

I'm more comfortable with boyfriends rolled to the longer length too, and I was wondering --- contrary to your concern --- that it might be woefully uncool. You just sorted that worry right out.

What a fun outfit. I love that top!

First of all, this is a fabulous outfit! Everything works really well together and you totally suit that leopard top. As always, the fit and way you've put these items together are spot on.

As for being overly trendy, you are not. You have enough uniqueness in your style an the way you wear your outfits to look current, but not like you stepped out of an ad.

    KILLER

(You want me to keep on fainting. That's your plan, Denise).

    :)

GOOD GRIEF, your style quotient has gone through the roof this year. WOW!!! You look totally naturally on trend. Those tops are an incredible design and I can't wait to wear one too - in 6 months when the weather warms.

    *faints*

The fit of that top is so stylish and it is such a great statement piece. Love how you've styled it, not OTT, but just the perfect amount of trendy. Wonderful outfit!

Good grief Denise. I don't cares about "trendy/trendy me not"... you look like 100% YOU, creative, fun, edgy, über-cool! If you walked by me on the street I would be tempted to at last smile to you very obviously to hint I understand and appreciate this work of art... I mean style!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago
