WIW -- The Outtakes -- ETA snaps from Jean-Paul Gaultier Exhibit

I am calling this my "outtakes" WIW thread because I'm dumping a bunch of WIWs that have been sitting on my desktop for a month. Nothing spectacular and most of all the photo quality/scenery is not up to my standards.

1. -- Me in a dress! With leggings! Do you remember this dress which I was on the fence about? http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ees-thread It's the first one pictured in the thread.

2. -- Worn to the SF Opera. This was a try-on photo, that's why the hair is bad. In hindsight, a shorter jacket would have been better and summery heels. But -- I only wanted to take one jacket (picture 3) and I couldn't find the summery heels.

3. -- Worn to knock about SF. I went to the French designer Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit in this outfit.

4. -- A break from boyfriend jeans. And a could shoulder top. I got this top in Tahoe shopping with Mo. This picture was taken after a 13 hour work day (shopping for 50lb sacks of flour as well as 150 other items) and the outfit as well as I survived!

Thanks for looking and opining!

Why wouldn't you post these? You look fantastic in a dress, your opera outfit is inspirational in the extreme, and the other two outfits are great! Sheesh, your outtakes kick my outtakes right where it hurts.

  • Midwest Girl replied 11 years ago

I love your SF outfits. You look great in that color of green!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Thanks Una! You are so funny. It takes a lot of strength for me to post WIWs, like I want to be really sure they are great. Maybe it's time to let go of that attitude?

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I know exactly what you mean--I don't post very often because I have to work up the nerve, be in the right frame of mind, have the time to reply, etc. etc. I really appreciate the brave women who keep the WIWs humming with their regular posts!

These are fab outfits! I love the all-black look. The sandals and bold necklace are the perfect touch. I think the paisley pencil is rocking with the button down and black jacket. I think the longer jacket looks edgy on you with the skirt, so I like it! The striped neon top is awesome with the black jacket, and your last look is cool too!

You always look true to your style and fab, Denise!

CocoLion, you don't know from outtakes! My best photos don't look this good.

    Now for the clothes.

I particularly love the dress on you. Very glam. #3 is fab! I was tickled by your neon stripes homage to Gaultier and his love of the sailor's striped jersey. That neon yellow color is very flattering on you. I interviewed Gaultier in Paris many years ago (when he designed the costumes for Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour), and he was incredibly down to earth, wickedly funny and all around endearing. Brings back nice memories. I covet the cold shoulder top in #4. I really like the back tie detail.

Kate -- I am kneeling before you with admiration! YOU have met Jean-Paul! The exhibit is great. I loved that it incorporated voice interviews with him. The exhibit also convinced me that he is a phenomenal talent, simply one of the best. So creative and edgy, yet everything still looks beautiful. Here are some fuzzy snaps I took while at the exhibit.

You are such a sophisicated elegant lady in that dress! All the outfits are wonderful, but that one bowls me over.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I love all these outfits, especially the one you wore to the exhibit! And thanks for sharing pics, I wish I could see such stunning work in person :-)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Oh, geez - your outtakes are miles ahead of my average WIW's! I usually haven't brushed my hair, or put on makeup, or even shoes half the time lol.
I love that top you got shopping with me! I think it was at Savvy.

You just radiate sophistication in even the most casual outfit! Love all of these.

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

I can't help but think that J-P Gaultier would adore the ladies of YLF. It makes me smile just to think of it.

Thank you so much for posting those photos from the exhibit, CocoLion. I would have loved to have seen it. The leopard dress, the camo outfits in #4 and that trio of beauties in #7 (would wear any of those!)—just heaven. I think I need you to help me with my next-to-non-existent camera skills.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I think you should post whatever you've got! I'm out here lowering the standard for you!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    Denise,
That dress in number one looks fantastic withthe leggings and I love the necklace also. I love that jcrew skirt in #2! I love outfits #3 and #4 also but #1 and #2 are absolute standouts for me.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Nodding at what everyone else said! LOVE your facial expressions, Denise. They make me smile :)

    All these outfits are 10s!

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

I could never pull off any of these looks if my life depended on it, but I am so happy to have come across YLF where I've learnt to 'read' and appreciate other styles. And I just love all of these.
1 is great, 2 edgy meets classic, 3 is just awesome in its simplicity and 4 is probably my favorite from the lot.

Denise, these are totally fab outfits. I'm so glad you kept that dress in #1, and I love it with the leggings. And the others are great too - I love the touches of neon yellow. Thanks for posting : )

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

You are the epitome of cool, Denise! I love all of these. It's really neat how your fabness translates from casual to dressy. You look amazing in all of these!

eta: I adore the black dress with leggings especially! I want that dress :)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Denise you make me smile! You must be horrified when you see me post with no make up, wearing a new jacket over sweat pants lol. Your out takes are fab!

All of these outfits look amazing? You wonderful on that neon yellow and I love the dress in 1. You have great style instincts and I don't think I have ever seen yo wear anything that wasn't wonderful.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

As always I cannot find fault in anything you've worn. I love how you've worn the leggings and dress. I've never pulled that off and am in awe.
My favorite is probably 2 because it's most like what I would wear. I think with the booties that jacket is key, without the black jacket I think more neutral footwear would work.

And nobody wears the skinnies like you do in 3 and 4. Fantastic and inspirational.

Denise you are WAY too hard on yourself! After seeing your exhibit pictures, I think you are holding yourself to too high a standard. :)

I love seeing your WIW's. You look great in a dress and leggings! In the second outfit I actually like the longer jacket and dark booties. It adds some seriousness to the look. Somehow the cut of that jacket looks really good with the pencil skirt, even though the jacket is long. I'm sure the heels really help, too. I love the striped top outfit, and I thought the messy hair was intentional! You always look too cool for school. And in the last outfit, the one you wore wrestling the 150lb. sacks of flour? Well it looks like you won. I'll bet you were the best lookin' lady in the joint, for sure!

I can't WAIT to meet you on Saturday! Woooooo-hooooooo!

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

I love each one of these outfits -- very chic and sophisticated. I'm very late to the leggings party, and I'm working on finding the right pair. Your outfit with the dress and leggings is so inspiring!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Wasn't that exhibit amazing!!!! If I had know you were going I would have asked you to get me a poster. I'm kicking myself for not getting one.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I love your style, Denise. These all look fab to me. Good for you for trying something new in 1. It suits you. I don't think the jacket in 2 is too long. You could also wear a shorter one for a different look, but I like this.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Denise, every one of these is wonderful! And you call them outtakes?!? Sheesh!

I love you in the dress and leggings, and love your black jacket looks, too. I have been getting a bit of wear from my own black jacket, by the way, thanks to your clever advice to pack it...

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Wonderful outfits. I'm totally in love with that striped top you are wearing to JPG collection.
