WIW -- Rolling Stones, San Jose 5/8

I have seen the Stones three times, this was the show I enjoyed the most!  Bonnie Raitt and John Fogerty were guests.  As well as Mick Taylor, from Exile on Main Street days.  I hope one day the Stones do another show with more of these artists, they seemed to really enjoy playing together.

Somewhere there were remarks that Mick Jagger is silly, trying to be his former self.  I thought quite differently.  He has a lot of energy; that is who he is.  I'm one who feels there is a place for rock musicians in old age just as it's OK to be old as a classical, jazz or blues musician.

It seems like Keith might have some arthritis in his hands, which is sad.  Ronnie Woods was in fine form, I have never heard or seen him perform so well.  And Charlie Watts is unstoppable, although disappointing from a style standpoint (blue crew neck tee for the whole show).  He used to be so dapper in his Savile Row suits.

Ronnie Woods stayed in the same skinny muscle tee, trainers and skinny black jeans the whole time.  Keith wore his Boho headband, jewelry, and silky shirts and bomber jacket.  As well as some dramatic scarves at the end.  Mick made several outfit changes, all black.  For example he wore a dramatic cape for Sympathy for the Devil, Boho feathers and a Balenciaga black jacket for Midnight Rambler.  The variety of textures in jackets/toppers really worked on stage, while still keeping everything paint-it-black (which they performed).  Here's a link with a review and set list.

#1 -- Here's my outfit.  At the last minute, I added a black fringe-y necklace which I think improved the outfit as it picked up the dark colors of the topper.  Channeling my love of Keith Richards boho style here.  Do you see all of the piled on bracelets?

Picture #2 is the concert tee which I am wearing today, post work.  It climbed up to the 90s today.

Pictures 3 plus are photos from the show, courtesy SF Examiner.  I thought all wardrobe choices were tasteful; both rock & roll and age appropriate.

Perfect outfit for the concert Denise - and thanks for sharing the concert pics. They looks great!

Awesome! You look great, and that sounds like a blast.

Your kimono is beautiful and those Splendid sandals are a terrific find. I never knew Mick was so dapper.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago
Dapper is the right word!  I really appreciated his style choices.  Usually he started a song with a different topper.  Then it came off, to reveal the same skinny black jeans and skinny fitted l/s crew neck tee.

He is sooooo skinny.  He has always been that way.  His stomach looked concave at the end of the show, and you could see his ribs on the mega-screen.

Denise, you look amazing. I really like your decision to go "light." it's less expected and a great contrast with Mick's dark. He really is thin, isn't he?

You looked great for the concert and the pictures and descriptions are mind blowing. I am in awe of their ability to continue to play with so much energy after all these years.

    WOW!!

#1 is KILLER to the power of KILLER. Polished boho with arty sass, alluring femininity, and verve! Beautiful colour palette, Queen Fringe!

I vote you more cool than the Stones.

So cool and how appropriate! A dream of an outfit for such a concert. I also absolutely adore your sandals in 2.

    YLF CL!

The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they have one set of rules for themselves & another for women (especially their daughters).
  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago
Caro, I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about?  Although if you are suggesting they are chauvinist, I wouldn't be surprised.  They are 67, a generation that really is not sensitized to women's issue the way young men, or even men 10 years younger, are.

Angie!  You made my day in admiring my Boho outfit!  You are are so big-hearted as I know this is very far from your own style.  And thank you for liking the color palette, I have discovered these soft colors the past year and they feel so right for me.  I think they suit not just my coloring but also my personality (after struggling with the neon jeans, remember?)

    Looks great!
  • MNsara replied 10 years ago
LOVE your concert outfit!  I can see how a dark necklace would be a nice addition too.  Your soft coloring looks so pretty in these softer colors -- it might be boho, but it's also elegant!

I love seeing the Stones in action.  When they did the Super Bowl halftime a few years ago, I appreciated Mick's physical energy AND his wearing of black running shoes during the concert (I imagined his running has given him fussy feet too ;-)

    SO AWESOME!!!

    *dies of jealousy*

Love your outfit. I saw the Rolling Stones years ago. I loved the show then and I bet it is just as fabulous now.
    Those sandals look great!

  • rae replied 10 years ago
SO COOL! Sorry to let the Stones steal your outfit thunder, but what a fun show. I agree 100% that older musicians can rock as hard as they want to (and really, who expects rockers to follow social conventions like that?). Maybe the younger groups will get tired of being upstaged and rock a little harder, lol.

Back to you, though, I love how you have done a perfect concert outfit that does not rely on black. The fringe, the colorful topper... fab!

Your concert look is so fantastic, Cocolion. What Angie said, for sure! The jacket is gorgeous on you, and I love how the bracelets play up the colors. You look so cool in your concert tee, shorts, and sandals, too, with the fringe earrings. Thanks for sharing your impressions of the concert, too. I enjoy living a little vicariously through you, and you make such a good point about age and rock musicians. Why not, indeed!
  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Your outfit is stunning and perfect. Love Mick's jacket in #5:).

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago
Fun outfit, the colors in the cardigan are lovely on you.
  • Angie replied 10 years ago
It's a pleasure, Denise :). I would be a very bad fashion stylist if I didn't love styles that are very different from my own style. OF COURSE!! I have a tremendous appreciation for all styles. That makes my job all the more fun.

And those soft colours mixed with the pops of bright and perfect for you.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago
#1 is really a great outfit Denise.  What a fun thing to dress for, and I love the way you paired the tee and sandals in #2 with the shorts - the colors seem perfect together. So great that you've been able to see the Stones 3 different times.
  • ElleH replied 10 years ago
Your outfits look great & I am soooo jealous you got to see them this time round. I wondered if it might be the last. Thanks for the band pics. Keith & Charlie used to dress better. Mick looks better than he has in a while though. I used to dress like Keith in the 70s up until quite recently. My 70s rock/boho looks don't get as much love on YLF as my more modern ones though. I'm wondering if they are too costumey. I love that period, 60s too, & I think it is because of all the cool bands from the time.
  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago
Elle - re: Mick looking better -- not only is his hair not grey, but I also suspect some work done around his eyes.  Which I have no problem with, just an observation.
  • rachylou replied 10 years ago
Great outfits! Sounds like a blast. The Fogerty twins were my class in school.

I do have to say I was afraid Mick was gonna die right there on stage when the Stones did the Super Bowl that time. But I also thought the same of Madonna, whose a bitty baby compared to Mick. Maybe it's something about the Super Bowl stage.
  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago
OMG Denise, you were born to this! The concert outfit is so fab I can't stand it. You have eternal style! And then you rock the concert tee, too. *happy sigh*
  • Sona replied 10 years ago
I love Angie's queen fringe. superb example of modern bohemian!
  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 10 years ago

I wanted to go SO badly! Oh well. You look amazing! I esp. love the kimono look with the booties. But those sandals you're wearing ROCK!!!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Denise, I love your Stones' concert look as much as I love rock 'n' roll and I couldn't agree with you more that a musician's life is ageless as this is their chosen craft and many get better and better, because they've got the time and experience invested in the craft!

Even as voices and hand dexterity come and go over time, their passion is still there and that's why they're on the road performing.  Thanks for the added photos and your observations on the group's fashion choices.  You look so cute in that kimono jacket topper.

  • jenanded replied 10 years ago

love your kimino look but impressed with sandals and t working in 2... how was Bonnie Riatt?

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

You look fab, Denise.  Rock on!

  • cinnamon fern replied 10 years ago

#1 is fantastic!  Keith Richards is one of my all time style heroes. And #1 is a perfect blend of that kind of cool with pretty.

  • replied 10 years ago

You look great and so do the boys!  Hmmm, you seem to be thinking naughty thoughts in photo 2. . .

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Fantastic outfits, and it looks like it was a fantastic concert, too!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Denise, you look beautiful!  As Angie said, the soft shades with a pop of bright just seems right.
