WIW -- Once again, going tonal and a re-mix

Among the trends from spring, tonal dressing is something that still feels "right" to me.

Picture 1 -- Tonal outfit. You've seen all of these pieces already except for the mauve cocoon top from the Gap. I wanted to return it because (after paying full price in June) I realized there were two pen marks on it. I decided to live with the marks after the return period expired. :-o

Pictures 2 -- Re-mix outfit.

Thoughts on the collage approach? I always photograph a few shots with and without flash. E.g., flash image is on the left, non-flash on the right in pic #1. The real colors are somewhere between each picture. Made with powerpoint then exported to jpeg. For me, easier and quicker than picasa.

Denise, your photo skills are as sophisticated as your outfits!

I really like both looks. And I like the idea of being able to judge the colours this way. Sometimes that can be a real pain.

All I can say is; you really do know how to wear a pair of jeans! :)

    I LOVE #1! K-word worthy by a billion percent.

#2 is lovely! A little more sweet but not overly so. Just perfect for stylish Denise :)

These are fab. You look so good in those soft colors! Love how the stripe on the skinnies adds some instant edge! Gorgeous skirt outfit too. Perfect way to beat the heat!

ETA: I like the flash photo for the details and I love seeing the natural photo to get a better idea of what it looks like IRL.

How fun;) I love those pants in #1. Those tuxedo skinnies are really cool. There is something so breezy and carefree about #2. That skirt shape is quite flattering on you.
As far as the pics, I like the more saturated photo but the side by side is nice too.

Love both outfits. I always use fill flash on my photos. Otherwise I notice it's too dark, especially with light I get on my deck.

Very nice Denise. Such completely different looks and yet both look right on you.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Both are great. I especially like #1 - I just want the skirt in 2 to be a midi somehow. Love the blue top and pendant.

Oooh, that tonal outfit is wonderful!
That color could look too sweet, but it doesn't at all the way you've styled it. It's quite tough and cool for an all-pink outfit.

Denise the colors in #1 are just so gorgeous on you. Very flattering and such a cool outfit. #2 is also really nice. I so often see you in jeans, that it's a really refreshing to see you wearing a skirt. And you have carried your cool, edgy vibe into the skirt outfit. Love both:)

OMG! That first outfit - I DIE!!! So stylish....

I like this photo approach too. Showing the two different lights gives a really good overall impression of the colours in the outfit.

Great photography technique. I like having both exposures side by side. You look edgy and cool (even in a pleated skirt!) How DO you do it Denise? Love the mauve on you, and the tuxedo style skinnies are so fab!

Very soft and chic. I like that your version of "edge" always has a little softness, a definite feminine undercurrent. If you can get enough light, I prefer without the flash.

  • Reneeb replied 11 years ago

The colors in #1 are so soft and pretty on you. I love the tuxedo pants so edgy and fit great.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Love #1. The details are easier to see (for me) in the second photos but it's nice to be able to compare the colours side by side.

It is interesting that this pleated skirt is so FAB, and I think it has to do with the length. Midi length would not
work nearly so well, and you have nice knees so why not flaunt them!

Love the outfits, love the photos. You are just too cool for school!

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

Really like #1 and agree that it translates to fall, 100%. I love that pretty rosey beige color on you!

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

I like the tonal outfit, just lovely. You were those soft shades really well. And I like the collages here, nice!

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Denise, both outfits are great, and I especially love the tuxedo striped jeans in photo #1. A great tonal outfit!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Love #1 - is that fringe on your bag? Radical, and by that I mean awesome!

#2 is great too, love the blue on you. Beautiful trees!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

You can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes. That goes for the colors, the outfits, and the collage. :)

  • replied 11 years ago

I love all the vertical lines in #1 -- the fringe on the bag, the long pendant, the stripe on the pants. You look soooo long and lean! The colors are really cool too.

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Oh man, Denise, that first outfit is just too, too cool --- the fringe! the stripe! the awesome colours! And you make a plain ol' pleated skirt look cool too --- on me, it would just look... old-fashioned girly un-chic?

I like these side-by-sides, too --- much better for judging colour and detail.

  • pil replied 11 years ago

I'm not clever enough to know the "why" but those are both great!

  • Ana replied 11 years ago

I love both your outfits, Denise! Outfit #2 is very inspiring for me. I'm going to see if I can put together something similar from pieces I have in my closet. You look beautiful! :)

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I think these are both great! Cool pants in 1 and very cool way of wearing them. The stripe could make them so in your face, but the tonal outfit carries it off just right. I like the collage approach. I find flash always look terrible in my hands, so I try to rely on daylight/extra lights. Sometime I adjust the light curve in photoshop to make it more true to life.

Love both outfits. Two different sides of Denise. The pink one is sooooo cool
