WIW -- Mile High Club

I finally did it. Purchased a pair of FIVE INCH heels, which, as a confirmed member of the mid-heel league, I swore I would never do.

These are from Shoemint, one of those book-of-the-month shoe clubs. I didn't join, I got these during one of their buy something without having to join promotions. (Normally, they charge your cc $79.99 each month unless you opt out, that's why these marketing schemes are sometimes called "negative option" programs.)

The verdict -- good quality, better than I expected. However, they are definitely a sitting shoe, even with a 1.5 inch platform. My calves started to cramp after 4 hours of wearing.

Outfit details: tee from UO, tuxedo pants Rag & Bone via Barney's, watch Invicta, pendant YochiNY. Worn untucked because I forgot my belt, but I might like tucking better. And the asymmetrical sleeves are so intentional! (Not.)

Thanks for looking! Have you joined one of those shoe or top of the month clubs? Would you?

I have never heard of such a thing! By that, I mean a shoe or top club. Curiouser and curiouser.

They look great with the stripe on your tuxedo pants.

  • Laurenlaurielala replied 8 years ago

Oh, I forgot to answer your question.

I don't think I would join. It would require too much commitment. And I wouldn't want 12 new pairs of shoes in a year!

I also don't really enjoy direct selling that much. I like to buy things from shops!

Congratulations on trying something new. I have never heard of a shoe or top club either.

  • merwoman replied 8 years ago

Thought mile high was referring to your legs - they go on forever in these pants/shoes!
    Fantastic look!

  • Laura replied 8 years ago

I like the outfit but would like it just as much with lower heels. I had a pair of 4-inch high platform clogs from Vince Camuto that scared me so much I had to let them go. I really thought I would hurt myself, and the foot pain was intense. I had to cling to my husband for dear life while walking from the car to the restaurant. I admire your ability to get through 4 hours in these!

    Gorgeous! Love those fabulous heels!

  • harmonica replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous look! I like the edge that these shoes brings to your outfit. Really great! Also love how stripes in your top and bottom is connected via dark colour and ends with great shoes. Though I sympathize with the height as a sitting shoe.

Never heard of such shoe clubs.

  • replied 8 years ago

Wow, you look mile high in those :) I don't think I could last 10 minutes in them! I really like your tuxedo pants.

  • kimlee replied 8 years ago

I have heard of shoe clubs before but have never thought of joining one. I applaud you for wearing shoes that are so daring. My poor feet just hurt looking at them!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

You got through 4 hours in those skyscrapers? Wow. I am amazed. They DO look cool, esp. with the tuxedo jeans. But I think the jeans will also look good with some of your other shoes.

I don't think I would join one of those clubs because my purchases are so few and far between (and they probably wouldn't ship to Canada anyway...)

  • Kirti replied 8 years ago

The shoes look so edgy and cool!

  • Parsley replied 8 years ago

Very cool shoes! I LOVE high heels, but they're so hard to wear. I applaud you for lasting 4 hours!
I think part of the trick to wearing heels is to wear them all the time. My mom used to wear only heels; she would even do housework in heels. (very June Cleaver!) They didn't hurt her, but she was uncomfortable if she put on a pair of tennis shoes. I think after a while your achilles tendons shorten.
For me (and I imagine for you, too) since I have to wear flat shoes every day for work, it's quite the transition to heels. But oh, well, I try anyway, because I love them.

Love your pants, too! The striped top is great with them. I think I'd like it semi-tucked the best.

I'm VERY leery of any book-of-the-month, shoe-of-the-month, etc. I know I'd just lose money that way, which of course is their goal!

You look great! My max is 3 in, so I applaud you trying something new! I have never even heard of a shoe club.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

This outfit is soooooo cool Denise. Love the trousers i particular.

As for the shoe club, I've heard of these but don't think I would join. The shoes look fab but I know I couldn't do 5 inch heels.

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

OMG I love those pants so much! I would love some in black.

Those shoes are sweet, but I have similar experience with my sky-high wedges. Definitely for days/evenings with minimal walking! I have learned to throw a pair of flats in my tote for days when I wear something like this.

You look great in this, Denise!

Oh, and it's probably a good thing that I never knew there was such a thing as a shoe-of-the-month club.

  • rae replied 8 years ago

Ooh, you duplicated the R&B tuxedos! Cute! The shoes are really cool, too. Too bad they aren't more comfy, but we are all entitled to a few sitting shoes.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Thanks for the replies Ladies! Here is a link to the Shoe Club. I haven't joined it, and like you, am leary. But you can opt out each month. You have a few days in the beginning of each month to say no thanks, no shoes this month.

    http://www.shoemint.com/

Of all of the shoe clubs I've looked into, Shoemint has the highest quality, although they also have the highest price ($79.99/mo vs. $39.99/mo). They also have sister clubs for tops and jewelry (Stylemint.com).

They have a nice pair of brogues in their collection at this moment!

  • Jem replied 8 years ago

You look great! Those are some tall shoes! I thought Shoe Mint looked interesting, but haven't tried it.

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

Love your outfit and your foritude. There is no way I could do 5 inch heels.
I have not joined the shoe of the month club. The selection looks a little limiting. My oldest daughter is a member of one of the and loves it.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

You look astounding in these shoes. Can't imagine wearing them, but wowza! Love the whole outfit.

My husband associates mile-high club with naughtiness on a plane.

  • annagybe replied 8 years ago

Love the shoes, I used to be able to do 5 inch heels, *sniff*. I wish there was some black in the top half of the outfit to bookend more. Right now it feels a bit heavy on the bottom.

  • MsMary replied 8 years ago

OMG you are the cutest thing ever!! Love the pants, love the shoes, love the top!!

I joined shoedazzle.com a while back, but the one pair of shoes I bought from them never really fit right and I discontinued my membership eventually. Plus I was always stressed out about having to cancel before they charged me for the month.

  • Vicki replied 8 years ago

I'm with Laura in that I like the outfit, but the heel height would scare the heck out of me. I'll let you enjoy the altitude.

  • Scarlet replied 8 years ago

Love that outfit, especially the pants! I have never heard of a club like that but I don't think I would like it because I would miss the thrill of the hunt.

  • cciele replied 8 years ago

Ooo great look! I love high platforms and those go really well with your fantastic pants.

  • Ruby Tuesday replied 8 years ago

Ssshh the first rule of shoe club is not to talk about shoe club, or is that fight club?

In all honesty I love how the tuxedo trim on the jean plays with the top. The black in the shoes is unexpected and really works.

  • Lisa replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous new shoes! I've never tried a shoe club, with my fussy feet I'd probably have lots of misses.

  • Jonesy replied 8 years ago

Well, they are definitely tall wedges :)! Love those jeans!

  • Isabel replied 8 years ago

You look fantastic !!! I can't believe the height.

I have never heard of a shoe club, but I know that they exist for jewelry. I don't like them because I don't buy often enough to make it have any value. It is like the gym club that you never use. It is a very support business plan...pure profit.

OT : what is going on with your brother and Everest ???

  • tarzy replied 8 years ago

Just wanted to say you look amazing! (I couldn't last 4 minutes in shoes that high.)

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

Una -- mile high club -- yes that was the joke I was trying to make. Those of us who are older will remember a racy book called "Coffee, Tea or Me" which was about flight attendant fun in the skies. I'm sure it didn't help dispel the myth of the sexually available flight attendant (Claire, I am sure, would have some wise and funny words on this topic)!

Anna, good point about the black shoes needing some continuity. Maybe black sunglasses?

Isabel, thanks for asking about my brother. He summited Everest for the 3rd time in late May. He did it alone and without supplemental oxygen. He said, if he would have been with a larger group, he could not have done it without the Os, as the extra responsibility of being expedition leader as well as looking after less experienced climbers, would have been taxing and would have required the Os. Trivia fact: the cost of a tank of supplemental oxygen on Everest is around $1000 US (raw material plus sherpa transport). Some less experienced climbers go many cannisters to get to the top. I think he said the Nepalese Canadian woman who perished this year had used 29, so sad she didn't make it.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

Yes Denise, when I read your post I was surprised at your candour in that regard and thought we were going all '50 shades of greyish!'

Seriously though your outfits are always FAB and fun.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

LOL Lyn D.! I thought the whole "mile high club" reference was so 70s as to make it benign... you know the way retro stuff is benign. Hope I didn't offend any one!

  • glam on the inside replied 8 years ago

Hee hee hee. Love a post with a saucy title. And a bonus cool outfit too! And then an amazing story of moutaineering thrown in!!! That's got to be some kind of record doesn't it?
