WIW -- Casual Holiday Outfits

Once again I am behind on posting individual WIWs so here you get a whole collection. I am posting them in the sequence of wear.

1/2 -- Nordies "Space Age" sweater makes its debut for the first Christmas party I could make it to (missed the first one). Worn with Paige subtle paisley print jeans, I was employing Angie's formula subbing the shiny sparkly jeans with these.

3/4 -- Plaid outfit for our restaurant Christmas party.

5 -- A Christmas shopping with Mom outfit. (I love this, I feel grown up in this outfit.)

6 -- Christmas Day outfit. My SIL gave me this J Crew Collection cashmere sweater for Christmas. I would not have chosen a turtleneck for myself as I run very hot. But I still like it and my DBF loves this color on me. Worn with subtly patterned 7FAM skinnies.

7 -- For a dinner party I held last night. Very body con. I think this is not me, the problem is with the high neckline and top length which I do not find flattering on myself. (But so many necklines are high right now, ugh.) Oh well, a good experiment as the top was just $24.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Wow, I love all of these, Denise! The first outfit is such a great interpretation of Angie's formula, looks so festive. And the plaid outfit says "holiday" to me too. Of course your sweetie loves you in the turquoise -- on you it is stunning!!!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

LOVE #4! And yeah you really do look good in turquoise.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Oh my goodness these are all just stellar! I LOVE the first outfit in particular -- that shiny top is so much fun and it looks so fab on you!

I really like #7, too -- I'm sorry you don't feel as fab as you look in it!

  • replied 11 years ago

Very nice, all of them. I really like #5 and you look stunning in the shade of turquoise in #6!

When I saw #5, it hit me that you really resemble Taylor Swift. An older sister, perhaps! ;)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Whoa, where do I begin? I SOOOOOO want to copy #4! I have the shirt (or one just like it - the one that Shevia sent me, Rag & Bone.) I have a black jacket. But I don't have those cool plaid pants!! Are these the ones that caused you grief, though? I'm so sorry if that's true, because they are such fun trousers. It would be a shame if you had to retire them.

I love the cashmere sweater on you, and love it even more with those subtly patterned jeans. Fantastic colour for you!

The space age sweater is also super cool.

I really like you in the mom-shopping outfit, as well -- what about it do you think makes you feel "grown up?" And why does mom like it?

I like the peplum top and don't think it is at all too body con for your great figure, but it might be a little too nice and girly especially in pink (even though the pink looks fabulous on you.) I know I encouraged you to keep it. And I still think maybe styled with something else you might enjoy it, because that colour really does flatter and the shape is fun and not as ladylike as some peplums due to the asymmetrical lines.

#1, #4 & #6 are my favourites. I know what you mean about high necklines - they feel uncomfortable to me, but I love that colour on you.

  • replied 11 years ago

That space-age top is terrific! And I love your grown up outfit too, although I can't tell what kind of scarf that is, faux fur? Fab. You look fab in that bright blue and the soft cherry too. You'd better hide the plaid pants from Suz!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Oh my! #4 is just amazing - that blouse with those plaid pants is soooooooo delicious. And #1 with the space age top is gorgeous - the perfect Christmas party top.

  • Nicole D replied 11 years ago

Your really rock those plaid pants - they are awesome...and styled perfectly. Love the paisley jeans too. I just can't pick a favorite. OK I will, it's #1 followed by #4.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

1 4 and 6 are my favorites. I am in lust of the tartan pants. I've not found any (save the Gap plaid skinnies) this season that are not ankle pants.

I don't think 7 is unflattering, but just does not seem like you (and maybe because it doesn't feel like you it photographs that way even more).

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

the space age top is so fun. You must have been the life of that party with this top. turquoise is definitely your colour.

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

Stunning looks on you Denise. I have a thing for plaid/tartan and this outfit is to die for.

We have our Christmas dinner with sil and her family tomorrow and while I've been trying to talk myself into pencil skirt the new heat seeking tights did not work out. You've convinced me to just go with my black skinnies which was what I really did want to wear all along anyway. Thank you.

cl, you look fabulous in all these looks. Such diversity and so chic. Love the plaid pants. That turquoise sweater looks fantastic on you.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Have very S L O W internet at my in-laws, but I wanted to say that these looks are stellar!

I would sit next to you at the party just to bask in your glow in #1, and #4 is so fresh and modern.

As for the pink top --- what about a scarf or pendant to create a vertical line? I like this top, but I know what you're saying about the neckline. I like a boat, U, or V better than the jewel, too.

P.S. Adore the blue. This is my favorite color this year!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Love all of these--especially the space age sweater. You look amazing, Denise!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

I can see why the BF loves the sweater in 6 on you! Also the space age shiny top in #1 rocks!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Denise, I love all of these. You don't put a foot wrong:). And you look like you are positively glowing:). This is a great silhouette on you and as usual I am very inspired. I was so glad to see you post as I'm at a girlfriends for the weekend and I was actually telling her about your fabulous style...hope you don't mind but I have just shown her your outfits. She says you look stunning.

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Denise, all your holiday looks are stunning! You are such an inspiration.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Another KILLER set of outfits, Denise!

You launched me into orbit with #1 and #3/4. *WOW*. I love the way the pendant in #1 adds an earthy touch to that glorious blingy sweatshirt. Genius! And...well.....#3/4 are '80s inspired so of course I am all over them. After all, we both bat for Team '80s :)

And I'm high fiving BF because you *do* look incredible in turquoise. Your shopping outfit for a day out with Mum is super, and I hope you had a great time.

  • replied 11 years ago

Beautiful set. I love those plaid pants.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

The plaid pants! The turquoise! the geode! You look so fab in every outfit, Denise. I even like the high neckline, though I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes a shiny necklace that scoops lower will help that feeling. At least all the tops in stores are not plunging necklines... ;)

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Love all of this soooo much. The plaid pants are my favorite!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Many thanks ladies for the support! I especially appreciate the love shown towards the Space Age sweatshirt.

The plaid pants aren't comfortable when I sit, even though they are a size too big. They dig into my low waist upon sitting. But they do look nice and perhaps I can keep them as "standing pants."

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Standing ovation pants, Denise. :-)

But if you DO get sick of them, I know someobody who might be happy to take them off your hands..... ;-)

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Late to comment, but I wanted to say that you always look fabulous to me. Picture #1 is glowing and I LOVE 3/4!

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

The '80's vibe of #3 and #4 is fab-tastic! The bling of the shirt in #1 is beautiful, and turquoise is your color!

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

FAB Denise- you always notice the small details in others' outfits that make all the difference, and these always shout-out in yours!
I love the plaid pants and the white and black shirt with the jacket- dressed-up but not dressed up!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love you in the silver top, the red plaid jeans are perfection, you look gorgeous in that blue - those are just the highlights!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You are the Queen of Casual Holiday! Favorites are #1 and #4 but each look is one for the inspiration board!

  • replied 11 years ago

Denise, I love these looks. 5 and 7 are my favourites :)

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

WOW, the turquoise is my fav because that color on you is just AMAZING! good sis-in-law! I wore a similar outfit Christmas eve - sparkly top and printed skinnies - I also was inspired by Angie's post about the little shiny pant - but I'd never wear shiny on my bottom half, so I updated the formula to suit me!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

WOW! What a festive week! I cannot choose favourites between the first two outfits --- they are just too stellar for words. I love how you put together what on the racks must look very disparate (paisley in space? gold bib and plaid?) and yet achieve great integrity (that pendant *makes* the first outfit, marrying its elements together; the black&white shirt marries traditional to Art Deco-ish).

However, I have to say, you need to go find a different top in that last colour is this neckline really bothers you. That colour makes you positively light up and glow!
