WIW -- Angie's Flared Legs with Trendy Top Ensemble

I've been wanting to do my own version of this recent ensemble, and here it is.  I wore it earlier this week, out to dinner with a friend who is a sort of mentor.  We talked about how I can get my mentality out of "victim" mode -- something I'm working on.  It seems I need to not let other people's behavior and comments get to me.  O_o

The peep-toe bootie sandals are a few years old and have a 5" heel with one of those island platforms.  Kind of dated but they work under these jeans which stretch out so in a few hours this outfit was a bit more PPL than pictured.

The top is from last winter, Zara.  It's thick sweatshirt material and quite  boxy and cropped.  The pea coat finishes things off, although I didn't need it.  In the future, I need to pick tops that fit better under this coat.  All the same I enjoyed wearing this outfit and plan to repeat this ensemble formula.

It occurred to me, while trying to get the coat over the bulky top, that one of the reasons it's so popular to throw a coat over your shoulders, is that many of today's tops don't fit very well under coats.  (Batwings, drop shoulder, dolman, kimono, swing etc.)

Thanks for looking and commenting!

    Oh love it!!  Perfect!

Oh about the comments - Does the mentor mean positive comments or negative ones? :D

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

LOL Neel!  She was talking about negative comments only, it's mostly family dynamic type of issues that I won't bore you with.

That is one fantastic outfit!!  You are, without a doubt, Queen Jeans!!  And that top is so fresh and fun!!  Love it!

    :) ....

And I think now I understand the logic behind throwing coat over the shoulders.  I was wondering how it even stays there or why would one do that! Mind boggles for a MOTG like me!  ;)

Wow! I love this look. The top is prefect for the flared leg jeans. You look so tall in this outfit. Wonderful.

This looks so modern and fresh. The boxy top really suits you, and the bright white looks great with jeans. I thought the coat-over -the-shoulder look was just models being cool, but your explanation makes much more sense!

This is wonderful Denise, from the shape & length of the top to the fit of the jeans. I love it.

I love the proportions of the top and jeans, very cool.

The flary top and jeans are so good together!

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

I love this with and without the coat, Denise. The proportions are perfect and you look fab in this type of flared leg + cropped top look. Plus, I love the simplicity of the blues with the white top.

Simple yet beautiful. You have inspired me to pull my flares out of storage.

A beautiful outfit, Denise, both with and without the coat! You look wonderful.

I have always loved those flare leg jeans. I still remember a boho tinged outfit from a few years ago when I think you wore these (or similar) and a velvet type of jacket? Gorgeous.

As for tops that don't fit under coats -- yes, this is an issue for sure! I have that problem with the GAP Lemming sweater from last winter (the cable knit one) and it is not even as bad as some.

You have mastered the volume over volume look of the flared jeans and boxy top and managed to look tall and slender.

    This looks stunning, Denise!

    It's right on baby!

Holy moly Denise - you look 6 feet tall in those jeans with gorgeous long legs! I think you have the proportions absolutely perfect in this outfit and it looks great both with and without the jacket. Love the simplicity of the outfit.

And I totally get what you means about some sleeve styles not working under jackets - I hate when you get that upper arm/shoulder bulk.

    Gorgeous silhouette on you, Denise!

Yes, it will take some work to keep the footwear workable for me as I go back to wearing bootcuts!  How do you do 5 inch platforms?

Good perspective and "shouldering" coats!  My dolman sleeves always wrinkle under my outerwear!

    Love this!

    Very nice! Boho rocker fabulousness!

  • jayne replied 10 years ago

You did that perfectly!  Love seeing those ensembles converted to outfits by real members.

It is great you have someone to talk to about difficult subjects.  Over time I have come to understand it is best not to wear out my friendships with too much heavy talk, so having a mentor must be fab.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Amazing.  How tall are you again, Denise?  You look  really tall in this kind of look!

  • Fruitful replied 10 years ago
