WIW -- A long weekend in San Francisco

Had so much fun, did a lot of shopping -- I'll be asking for help with my purchases later.

#1 -- Worn to the Berkeley Rep's performance of Chinglish -- highly recommended! This is a new silhouette for me so I took practice pictures before I left (first 3). The sheer sleeveless tunic/dress is from Vince. Picture on far right is how I actually styled it (less jewelry but a true statement piece in silver and gemstones, hand-made). However it's not a great picture.

#2 -- Worn to Opening Night at the San Francisco Opera. Lots of long dresses! The mayor and Nancy Pelosi were there.

#3 -- A collage of my casual looks, which I would classify as smart casual.

Outfit details next, for those interested and with time. Thanks for looking and commenting!

Denise, you look absolutely stunning next to that side of beef on the floor--LOL! What a dramatic and gorgeous look! Love the opera ensemble too. So elegant and chic! The delicate laces on the flats are divine. Fab casual outfits too. I especially love the blue sweater one--awesome silhouette on you. I want those pants!

Love the black dress, the grey jeans, and the blue sweater! And the outfits you built around them.

3 -- Left outfit -- maximal! I felt great in this but got stared at disapprovingly in the elevator by a (frumpy) woman my age. Jacket Zara, top Young Fabulous and Broke via Revolve, jeans TJ Maxx, scarf TJ Maxx. Center outfit -- same pants and jacket as #1, Gap Pure grey top. Right outfit -- NAS Only Mine zip back sweater in teal (thanks again Sarah!), H&M slightly slouchy viscose track pants, Lucky Brand pendant, Me Too ballet flats. My mother loved this outfit on me.

No doubt you were the best dressed person at Chinglish! I look forward to seeing it on the 6th.

In between seeing bits & pieces of the sumo wrestling exhibition on Saturday in Japantown, we stopped by the Kinokuniya bookstore. I have never seen so many fashion mags, esp. the kind that are close to $30/issue. Pretty amazing with all those heavy glossy photos. If you don't mind not being able to read most of the text, this is the place to stock up! I thought of you and Anna when I saw those many stacks.

Ha ha Kellygirl, that side of beef is the one and only CocoLion, she wouldn't budge! And since I stole her name for my YLF avatar, she wants some WIW action too.

    LOVE it all! So fantastic.

  • Makrame replied 11 years ago

    These are great outfits!

Once again, I cannot believe that the jacket in #1 is not real leather. Looks great with the silk tunic.

Love your opera dress, and the casual outfits (that blue sweater is great on you).

Denise, you look fantastic in all of these! Every one is awesome. So funny that you got a disapproving look for the grey outfit--it's the one that I love the most! It takes confidence to pull off maximal, and you do it so well. Fabulous look and fabulous confidence.

You look amazing! Your shoulders are so beautiful!

And my favorite is the one that got the stinkeye from Ms. Elevator Frump. LOVE!

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

From casual to uptown, you've got it covered, Denise. I love that sheath dress with those stunning shoes and to think they're from the '90s. I really like the casual look that Ms. Frumpy seemed to disapprove of in the elevator. The colors are sensational.

Sounds like a divine weekend and you looked the part!

  • celia replied 11 years ago

You look radiant in all your outfits but my favorite one is by far the first one(the way you ended up styling it). It has a rock star appeal.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

A whole slew of fantastic outfits, Denise! My favorite is the first one, it's just so cool!

Your weekend sounds amazing. I did not get to go to SF this year (I often try to make a summer trip) and I miss it!

I see in pic 1 that "somebody" has passed out - no doubt totally gob-smacked over the awesomeness of your outifit. Pic 2 - those shoulders, those shoes - you look elegant and edgy! Pic 3 I think I recognize those grey skinnies from a previous post - all looks are stunning - but your first casual has my heart. Love the way you have blended colours and textures.

    Hooray, a Denise outfit post!!!!

Ms. Stinkeye was just a jealous jellybean. You are looking so utterly gorgeous, from your casual looks to your opera fanciness. Your dog even fainted from your fabulosity! I LOVE all of these!!!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Wow, amazing travel capsule! The last pic with the blue sweater and necklace is especially cool.

  • replied 11 years ago

Goodness gracious! I love your new silhouette (avec le chien), your glamorous evening dress (!) and of course your casual looks are always sublime. The proportions in the first look are especially pleasing. Too funny about Ms. Snooty. She sound like the type that would say, "Well, I NEVER!"

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Fantastic outfits! #1 and 2 are absolutely stunning!!!! and love all the other casual outfits. Perfectly San Fransican!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Ohmigosh. You are so fab! I give up!

    #1 is to die for!!!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Denise, you look stunning in each and every one of these. LOVE the new silhouette - plus the necklace. ADORE the opera finery; you look so sophisticated and glamorous in that. And I can't for the life of me understand what the elevator lady's problem was, because that outfit on the left is positively inspired! I also love the contrast between it and the simpler ones. More jealous than ever that the Only Mine sweater sold out before I pulled the trigger. Alas....

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Nothing to add except wow to all.

  • jen replied 11 years ago

I just love your style :)

  • cjh replied 11 years ago

Terrific outfits. The black choices with the stunning necklace are so sophisticated. You are just glowing with style and confidence.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Girl, you have got some AMAZING style!!!

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

Wow! You look incredible. My absolute favourite is the "maximal" outfit that garnered the disapproving stare. I would have been staring, too--staring IN AWE and ENVY! I'd never have thought to pair those patterns and colors but it works so very well.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

Such a range of vibes in these outfits, all different, all gorgeous. Opera glamour look is so elegant, and those shoes are so sweet! (Hair is gorgeous too.) I think my heart goes out to the mix of muted tones that earned you disapproving looks in the elevator. That outfit suits you so well and just makes my heart go pitter patter. Great necklace collection. Gosh I am gushing.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

Denise, what great outfits. All of them are 'look twice' outfits but I love how you go from rocker chic to elegant lady between 1 and 2! You are so much fun!

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

    Gorgeous weekend indeed!!!!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I am elated to get so many loving and humorous responses!

It sure was difficult to take WIWs in the big city. I am so spoiled here at our ranch where only four-legged creatures watch me posing in front of my little Canon.

Thanks for all of the therapy re: elevator lady. I saw so many fab people in SF but especially this time I noticed the stylish men (of course). The (mostly gay) men in SF really make an effort. I wanted to walk up to them and tell them how much I admired their outfits!

The best dressed people I saw were the ones working at stores, from H&M and the Gap up to the expensive department stores.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I started to post earlier but was rudely interrupted by family wanting dinner. Hmph. Anyway, I LOVE LOVE all of these looks, and your maximal one is my favorite! The overall lines caught my eye, then the patterns - I love the combination of more tailored cuts with max pattern. SO FAB!

And you are coolness personified in the first set of photos.

    An all around inspiration, Denise!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Edgy and elegant are the terms that jumped into my head. #1 is to die for. Pass the smelling salts for me and your dog! I wish I could be that cool! And I love your ALGO outfit. Ms. Stinkeye Frumpalicious was just angry she couldn't look as fab as you! A bunch of great outfits, Denise!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Denise am I allowed to say "Killer" on all counts. The first outfit is just "Wow". Prior to YLF I wore this silhouette quite a bit and still do on occasion and I love it! You have just the right amount of edge, elegance, chic...I could go on:)

And I love that Zara jacket! Poor frumpy lady was probably a little envious:)
