WI Might Wear -- Do I dare leave the house in this?

Bold pattern mixing, volume on volume, patterned palazzos/pj pants going on here. Lots of potential for disaster. I need your advice.

1. Outfit concept (pictures 1 - 4) -- Yay or Nay?
2. If yay, should I wear the blouse knotted (pictures 1&2) or long 'n loose (3&4)?
3. Red Michael Kors bag (new with tags) -- Yay or Nay?

Details: Missoni for Target pants, Karen Kane print blouse, BR black wool jacket, Edmundo Castillo point toe booties. Shown with Express black clutch and Michael Kors red bag.

I like it with the jacket, and without the red bag. But I'm not the most daring dresser around lol. Where would this outfit be going, may I ask?

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

I'd like it without the black band visible on the shirt or the pants. It's too much of a big horizontal line breaking up the two patterns.

Mo, I am going to a women's gathering. Some of the gals wear sweats and bring babies, so it's casual but they are very used to seeing me as the always-dressed-up one.

  • Heather replied 12 years ago

Denise, you are my style idol. I love this tucked! You rock. Go, go and be fab!

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

Got it. I missed the knot or don't knot part - I'm with Anna, knot to eliminate the wide black band. Have fun!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Anna, I agree the band on the bottom of the black pants is the worst thing about them, so leg shortening. So I guess that means it's a deal breaker.

ETA -- I can knot it to eliminate the black band on the blouse. No can do on the pants. (Caught Missoni in a design flaw!)

#5 is my favourite outfit of yours ever Denise! This is STELLAR!

  • RoseandJoan replied 12 years ago

    Love this.

I prefer the look knotted as in pic 1&2 and love both bags equally.

Double Dare you to leave the house.

    CocoLion,
I'm not super crazy about the pants. I am trying to find some love for patterned pants but am struggling. You are definitely tall enough and willowy enough to carry off the volume on volume look though. I love the color and softness of the blouse itself. The bag is cute too.

  • replied 12 years ago

These are really fun! LOVE #1 especially.

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

I don't know if I would be daring enough to wear this yet, but I love #5! You are SO fashion forward :D

  • rae replied 12 years ago

My vote is: tucked, jacketed, and a neutral bag. The red puts it over the edge IMO, and it needs the structure of the jacket.

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Thanks Everyone. Rae, good point about this look needing a more toned-down bag.

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

I will never forgive you if you do not leave the house in this! I adore those Missoni pants - wish they'd worked on me. You look great.

  • replied 12 years ago

I'm going to swim against the current but I think the bottoms look too much like lounge wear or sleepwear to make this workable, but hey, I'm not the most fashion forward person here!

I'm sure this will end up a success and you will prove me wrong:)

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

I'm with Shannon, I love #5! I love red white and black. You could always switch to a white blouse if you wanted to tone it down. I didn't have the best luck with my pattern mixed printed pants look but you look like you could carry yours off since it's very consistent with your usual style.

  • greenglove replied 12 years ago

I like it best without the jacket- very cute on you. I think you can get away with almost anything. I think the band at the bottom of the shirt conflicts with where the jacket ends.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

    Team rae, exactly.

    And: *swoon*

  • Isis replied 12 years ago

I like it! I vote tucked, jacketed, and I love the red bag!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Sooooooo Denise.....did you leave the house? And in what version? Inquiring minds wanna know!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

I'm with, Natalie. I love #5! KILLER. (tucked and jacketed).

I love the red bag too. But a neutral bag would work just as well.

Please leave the house wearing this outfit you gorgeous creature.

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Thank you ladies for all of the encouragement.

I'm leaving any minute now. The only thing is, it's raining a little so I am bringing my black flat-ish booties along just in case.

Greenglove, there are actually things I cannot wear: try cropped (big) patterned skinny jeans. But I love the soft sweeping feel of printed wide legged pants so I am going to look for some that are more PPL. These are very short, as pants are right now.

Angie, thanks for the Killer vote. I was hearing Angie voices when I added the blazer!

And Mary and Heather, I think I may be switch-hitting this season for team maximal!

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

I like it tucked/knotted, with jacket, and I vote for a neutral bag.

I wish I could pull this off like you do! Looks awesome.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

You have already left as I write this, but I was going to say, GO with the tucked and jacketed look, any bag! You look spectacular. And so so elegant and funky.

  • vickie replied 12 years ago

Hi mo i love the slacks and black jacket and the red purse, you look fab, in my own personal opinion i would dress it up with a nice white shirt, or dress it down with a t shirt.
    you look great

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 12 years ago

I missed out on commenting before you left too but love 1 and 2. I like the shirt knotted and even thought the prints are both bold, I love them together. You have a great eye.

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

That is an amazing outfit! You are good at putting fun things together. I hope you post if you get any interesting comments from your friends! :-)

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

#5 is my fave - I'm not sure what you did with the waist band in that one, but whatever you did works to my eye. Cool bag - keep.

  • Marley replied 12 years ago

Oh wow! Love this tucked/jtied and with the jacket - and I don't think the black band on the hem of the pants is a deal-breaker as long as you wear black boots/shoes. Very cool outfit!!!!

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

I am not a huge fan of printed and wise pants but your outfit looks cool - #5 in particular.
    You rock, Denise!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

I cannot tell you how much I love this outfit! I prefer the top knotted and the jacket over it. The black band at the bottom of the pants doesn't bother me. I like the red bag also. It's kind of busy but not! I truly think this is stunning and you MUST wear it.

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

You look stunningly stylish, Denise! Came to this late, but my favourite was #5. What bag and shoes did you finally go with?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 12 years ago

Just another vote of confidence here. I love the outfit on you with the blouse knotted, the jacket on, and either bag. Great pattern-mixing, and I like the volume-on-volume (though I guess the knotting does minimize that effect). I'm impressed with how you put this outfit together. YLF!
